same thing!

Took the grill off sanded the @&@&@&@& out ouf it and threw on some good black flat. I like the results.

haha i did the exact same thing with mine haha

imo straight black on the 62 makes the headlights stick out weird, so this is what I did

but now with my crawler rims it kinda sticks out too, so im thinking of getting factory color spray paint and doing the chrome charcoal grey,

again just my opinion

i dont know why its not working, if you search "freshly painted grill" you see my thread with the same link

Black out is the way to go

Mine, is a flat black over the sanded chrome.

I did mine this weekend and of course no pictures. It's not on the truck yet as I'm doing the 62 to 60 conversion. It sure does look good off the truck though. I did use the green scotchpad advice and that seemed to rough it up sufficiently. Two coats of primer and two coats of flat black Krylon.

Are all "toyota" emblems on 60 grills painted white instead of chrome? Mine is painted white and I actually like it better. Looks older.

Kling-on -

did you paint the door handles on the truck or take them off? if taken off, how difficult to do that.

Yea Please Mr. Wizard do show us the painted door handles, i want to
to see them also

just taped theM out on the truck and scuffed the crap outa them

All of them I've seen are the off-white. The one I got from Justin, he painted it silver which is exactly what i would have done. I don't know how he did it because even really really close up, there are no mistakes.

I found that other link and checked out your pictures, and I think thats a great Idea. I tried photoshopping that in too, haha I'm a nerd haha, and I left one side blacked out all the way and the other has the chrome headlight bezel. What do you guys think? as opposed to the original grill as well!!

now that i took off the gutter trim and snake blinders and swapped in some black crawler rims, im thinking of spaying the chrome areas i have left charcoal grey to match my paint

what are these snake blinders?? are they the little vents on the sides by the front quarter panels? or what?

it is the chrome strip on the rocker panels, prone to causing rusting underneath

when you take off the snake blinders, are there any holes to fill? or is what is underneath pretty clean, smooth and ready to go metal?

same thing on the gutter chrome, when that comes off, what is left to live with for a while. i have a Wilderness roof rack that holds to the gutter. would taking off the chrome effect the way the rack mounts.

I did not remove all the chrome, I just scuffed it up really good, then cleaned it with solvent.
i did thisi once and sprayed bedliner
worked good for a while then one little chip occured and it started peeling
then had to be redone periodically

jfnall, there are holes on the rocker which must be plugged if you take off the trim, i got little black automotive plugs from ace hardware, when i plugged them i backed the plugs with marine grade silicone to keep water out

as for the gutter trim, toss it your gutter is the factory color underneath and your rack will have a stronger grasp directly on the gutter
