I really like the look of the black factory bumpers on the base model 100's instead of the color keyed gray ones I have. Does anyone know if I try to remove the paint from mine, will I have the desired finish underneath? Or after I'm done trying to remove it will the finish be ruined? I really think my green rig would look better with black factory bumpers until I can afford to get the protective bumpers I really want. Any ideas on how to remove the paint with the least or without any damage?

Then it's just a matter of painting my grille black, getting the non-spoke steel wheels, take off the side molding, and buying the disco graphics down the side that I saw on the toyodiy.com parts list!! Well, okay maybe not those!!:p

Yeah, I think you're probably right. There's a body shop that our dealership works with close by, I think I will check with them and see what my options are. I just thought someone here would have the answer I was looking for.

they make bumper paint for plastic bumpers...your local big box auto store will sell it...if your bumper has a gloss finish right now...you might want give it a light sand before you paint...

I painted my trim and rear bumper with Dupli-Color Truck Bed Liner in black and love it. Here are a few pics:

Sorry, the pics aren't great, but I like it much better than the OEM grey.

Looks good pint! That would probably be a cheaper route than the $180 I saw factory unpainted ones online for. Are the Aussie spec. ones just black plastic colored, or do they have a coat of black paint?

A couple more pics. Again, not great, but better than nothing! The color has grey in it, but looks good against the black truck.

I have sandblasted my bumpers and have painted it with elastic black paint. I've also removed the fog lights and inserted homemade blanks instead:

I think, with black bumpers it more looks like a real offroader. Actually I've painted them black as the color didn't make it ;)

I agree, the black bumpers look more "Toyota" to me. When we got our Cruiser, it was out with the wood kit, and off with the gold kit. It just doesn't seem right at all. I remember when my Dad bought his "True Blue" colored 1986 Toyota 4x4 brand new. It had white steel wheels, black grille, bumpers, blue vinyl floor and bench seat. I just don't see why when you buy Toyota's flagship here in the states, you can only get it "loaded."

I used plastidip. Spray on to protect, peel off when you want to sell. No prep needed besides a wipedown with the cleaner of your choice. Been on for about a month now, holding up great. Haven't done any wheeling with it yet but it seems durable enough. Gonna do the wheels this weekend to match.
