Anyone ever purchase a rig from them? Got about 35k put aside for my next vehicle and would love an 80 series cruiser. Live in south Florida (Sarasota) and really wanting to get a nice solid 80. Just not sure who to trust. Any recommendations would be helpful.

Only trust yourself...... just be patient and watch your local classifieds for a private seller listing a 96 or 97 80 series. Florida is famous for its rust free cruisers.

Or you can drive to Utah and buy my rig. I will even let you keep $10,000.00

About 16 months ago I took the advice in post #2. I looked on craigslist up and down the west coast and towards the Rockies; one day someone listed a LX450 with a space between the X And 450, which doesn't search the same. It was 11 miles from home. 372k miles - one crawl under the vehicle to see absolutely zero rust from the original owner...
5 minutes of negotiations.
Done deal.
The search took ~2 months
Enjoy the journey

Wait until gasoline hits $10/gallon, some people will park their 80's, then the wifey will get tired of seeing it taking up space in the driveway, then it will end up for sale. 80 prices may eventually come down if gasoline costs stay high, IMHO.

Looking for a solid Paint & Body shop in or near Dallas, Tx for my 62 restoration... Anyone?

Stay away from Black Dog. Multiple bad stories about them.

Not long ago they completed an ls swap, restomod of sorts on an 80, big $$$, then after delivery… when asked to fix some issues they said they were going out of business and couldn’t help the guy.

Whether or not they are “out of business” seems to be unclear.

Why pay a markup? Take your time and pick a decent runner. Do the maintenance and learn about it. Seriously, this is coming from a tech. Toyota’s are easy peasy to learn on..

My all time WALL OF SHAME is a 25K paint job we had to repaint and there were cat paw prints under the clear coat... Pics don't lie and I can't make this s*** up....

YES....... They have shop cats.... per the customer...

From a professional stand point I can tell you that TX is full of shade tree hacks. This isn’t just reserved for “cruiser shops.”

The last contract job I had was with a local fire shop. They were in bad shape when they hired me to fix all the stuff they couldn’t handle. It was all good until they hired some recent graduate from tstc. 22 years old coming in talking how the last job he had the guys were “mean to him” and “stole his tools” I told him call the cops and make a report.. He got the job based on “good ol boy rules.” The moron was installing drain bolts with his snapon impact. The hack never took responsibility for his mistakes, constantly threw people under the bus for his screw-ups and actually went hands on when being directed not to do stuff. He made fun of my kids, and called my wife a w#ore. They hired him to get rid of me cause I made more money than the superintendent..

I walked away from a good paying job just to let that retard and organization suffer.

At this point in my career people call me to offer jobs. Good jobs, so Forget putting up with all that. It’s all about money for me, not recognition or even a title. Money only. So if the bull$hit starts overflowing, I walk.

My family is currently working on getting out of the state cause it’s full is losers like him.

I have two daughters. In no way am I going to let that kinda trash pollute my gene pool. Hell naw! They can inbreed some more and go extinct.

So yeah if you are a crap mechanic it Texas I’m talking to YOU.

Rant over. lol!

They rebuilt a 12HT for a 60 customer and it failed within a couple months. Refused to take any liability. Engine tear down was missing bolts, etc...

@CenTXFJ60
Yep. Bought this 62 from a guy in Dallas (he was the original owner) and he paid a crap-ton to have BD-traders rebuild the 12HT. Failed 4 months later and they would not work on it since the mechanic that supposedly rebuilt the motor was no longer with them. I have the detailed receipts as well and there’s a separate line charging for the head rebuild. See the video and tell me if you think that head was sent out for a rebuild…
