Received my trail permit and map in the mail today.

Also picked up a shovel and a 7 gallon plastic water can from Bass Pro Shops in Bolingbrook. I can fit the can and one gas can in my rear rack if I lay them down. The extra gas can is because the gas gauge on my truck is really useless below 1/4 tank plus the tank is really small and I really don't want to run out on the trail.

Tomorrow will be packing and some last minute maintenance/adjustments so I can leave right after rush hour traffic clears on Friday.

I was at the same bass pro today.

Picked up a 5 gal water jug from menards for 12$.... even has a spigot. I hope a folding shovel counts. I'm ready to go. I haven't touched the 4runner since pys. Feels weird asking it to do 2000 miles and 10 days of wheeling after beating the s*** out of it on pys.....but it doesn't seem to need anything.

So do I need to make a piece of wood Ttp jam between my seat and brake pedal I have a parking brake? Anything else I'm going top get hammered on with these dumb tlca rules?

I don't know. I have a brake pedal stick (a snap on one) and I fixed all my lights except back up. I suppose I can throw the wind shield in the truck and tape it on for tech. Need to get another fire extinguisher.

I feel I did more work for this stupid two day event than I did for the entire rest of the trip.

Yea, I think i'm going to use a laundry hanger rod. I have an extra hanging out. It'll wedge nicely on the brake.

I have an extra fire extinguisher if you'd like to use it.

Have a great time people. Keep us updated with pics and stories from the trip.

Oooo I'm so excited!

I'm not going to leave as early as Gumby, but I've pretty much determined I'm taking two days, too. No way my kidneys can take 16 hours straight in the cruiser.

I'm all packed up and ready to go. Looks like Deadwood, SD is supposed to get several days in a row of sunny skies and ~90 degrees. I think this is going to be a great trip!

Have fun! Wish I could be going on this, but alas I cannot, the theme of this summer!! I will try to be there next year, although looks like my new job will be lacking in the vacation time off department. Take lots of pics!!

5 miles from Minnesota.
