So has anyone noticed that there is a pretty major wildfire burning along the Wyoming/South Dakota border in the Black Hills National Forest? I hope this doesn't cause problems with our access to the trails.

The fire is still going on in the black hills. There doesn't seem to be any thing about it on the Dakota cruisers site. Otoh theres nothing anywhere about this years event. The thread is non-existent.

I'm getting wary of sending them $200 and registering my truck and spending the money to make it road legal when there isn't a single post in the thread a week out.

That seems to be the way they are.

Looks like there is a fire ban.

I did get an email from them today, since I'd already signed up for their event. The email had info from Dakota Territory Cruisers as well as quoted text from the forest service regarding the fire ban. Here is the stuff from DTC:

UPDATE: 2012 Black Hills Cruiser Classic

With the hot and dry conditions in the Black Hills, fire and smoking restrictions have been put into place by the National Forest Service. The 2012 Black Hills Cruiser Classic (BHCC) is still scheduled to occur but we wanted to make participants aware of some changes this year due to the restrictions that have been put into effect as of July 3rd. We have attached the Stage 2 Fire and Smoking Restrictions order issued by the USNFS for you to read but wanted to cover a few of the items in this email as well.

Here is a few of the restrictions that will effect participants at the BHCC:
1. No open fires, including in established campgrounds
2. No smoking on the trails, except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer or building.
3. No welding or use of acetylene torches on the trail.

As per TLCA technical inspection rules we require every vehicle to carry an approved fire extinguisher in trail vehicles. This year due to the fire danger, the Dakota Territory Cruisers (DTC) will also require ALL participating vehicles to carry 5 gallons of water and a shovel in addition to the TLCA requirement. This is simply a precationary measure to assure everyone is safe when participating in event trail runs.

As stated above the 2012 BHCC is still scheduled for July 18th - 21st, but we feel it is our duty to inform participants that there is potential that our event permit can be cancelled if the National Forest Service deems that the fire danger is too high. We will be in contact with the National Forest Service Recreational Specialist and will notify participants of any changes as soon as possible if they occur.

We hope everyone travels safely to the Black Hills, bring lots of water to drink and pray for rain!!

See you all at the 2012 Black Hills Cruiser Classic!

No campfires? That'll be rough. Better than a big forest fire though I suppose

Might change if they get some rain.

The real problem is if we can't weld. On PYS I think we welded every day.

Maybe.

Odds are we wont be interested in more heat.

We could put a flashlight in the cold fire pit

Lol. That's what I was thinking. Pile up a few flashlights and we'll be rockin. Just got my trail sticker ordered.

You guys register on the clubs site yet?

I gotta get my truck repaired. Haven't touched it since pys. I'm going to trailer it though so I don't have to worry about it though. Not to much to do. Trans Pan leak just needs some jb weld and I'm going to have a hydraulic hose made studio I don't have to worry about my creak skills making a high pressure hose in the garage.

My truck is in so many pieces right now it's scary. Both axles torn down to the housings, front bumper off, no steering, it's going to be a mad scramble to get it back together in time.

I should have put 5.29's in years ago...

It sounds like you got the diff out.

I got torsion axles. I might just be ready to roll this week.

I put a mechanical fan in the pig to help the cooling issue. I was trying to figure out if it was pulling through the radiator with no shroud when I noticed the electric pusher fan was spinning at speed, but wasn't turned on. I think it draws ok.

Nice. Cool piggy = happy piggy.

Registered. Tried to get the trail permit, but they want the plate number and I don't have it at home. I'm gonna be pushing it to get it in time. I wonder if they are available there.

I would assume. But if not when i bought mine they emailed me a temporary. I'm sure you could present the email. Or get it printed.

It looks like all of the fires in the Black Hills National Forest in South Dakota are now 100% contained. They apparently were close to containing the last one and then got significant rain last Thursday night which pretty much put them over the top. There is an area of the forest near the White Draw fire that is still off limits with no eta for when it will reopen. I have no idea of any of the trails we might be interested in are in that area or not, I guess we'll know when we get there.

I still need to get a 5 gallon water container and a shovel to meet the updated equipment requirements.
