Got hold of a 1HZ and would like to replace the old 3B. There are a lot of issues like the 1HZ is 12v, would my 3B starter fit on the 1HZ? Should I get a bigger rad because the 1HZ has an after market turbo. Any pointers please!

First, try to get the right engine donor. A complete vehicle is better that trying to piece meal your parts. Get the 1HZ out of a land cruiser, not a Coaster bus. A 75 series donor is better than an 80 series. Buy everything in the engine compartment from donor including all accessories mounted on the firewall and the inner fenders and the radiator, and fan shroud and all the cooling, radiator and vacuum lines and wire harnesses. You'll thank yourself later.

If the starter is a 24V, change out the starter motor with a motor from a 22R Hilux engine, etc. Radd Cruiser had a thread in this forum about his 1HZ swap into an FJ45 that talked about doing this. Get 12V glow plugs too. Are you sure the 1HZ you are getting is 24V? RSA spec vehicles is usually 12V.

You need a different rad just because the inlet and outlets are at different locations. A raditaor shop may be able to relocate them.

You need to make or get the power steering cooler and lines from the donor, 3B lines are different. I you have AC the compressor location and the lines will be another hassle, if you can get the condenser, dryer, and lines from the donor, do so.

Get the fuel filter and all the fuel lines after the filter to the fuel pump. These will make the swap much easier. Get the motor mounts and chassis mounts from the donor. These will involve a lot of grinding.

just to add, the imput shaft is different between the HZ and the B series so grab the tranny as well...

Will that inline 6 fit in the bay of a 70 series?

the 78's and such use the 1hz, would it not fit the same? If you read his post it says he already has the 1hz and its 12v. his truck is 24.

I picture is worth a 1000 words. This is a 70 with 1hz motor in it (1990) the caption is backwords the 1hz replaced the 13bt.

Ok, answers my question.

NamibCruiser lives in Africa . . .

If the 1HDT fts into the engine bay, so will a 1HZ:

The 1HZ in my HJ60 came from a 70 series and is 24V. Putting a 1HZ from a 24V 70 series into another 24V 70 series would be very easy i think. You probably wouldn't even have to fab new motor mount brackets, just call ENS Industrial and order up a brand new set of 70 series 1HZ weld in brackets.

Rob had to fabricate new motor mounts for my 1HZ in my HJ60.

He could certainly tell you how everything else went.

Yes the 1HZ into a HJ............. other than the motor mounts is pretty darn strait forward.

Been meaning to ask this question although I am pretty sure I already know the answer, 1HZ super glow system or not?

I got the 1HZ from a guy who replaced it with a V8 in a 75 series. I have a complete engine but nothing else and the 1HZ is 12v. So I guess I'll have to convert the BJ70 to 12v and get a shorter input shaft for the H55F tranny as well as relocate the in- and outlets for the radiator.

Unfortunately the PO removed the AC from my BJ70 so I have to make do with the natural way by opening all windows and it can still be hell sometimes. 52°C inside!

Thanks

It's probably easier to convert your engine to 24V.

If you ever come this way, I'd be happy to trade you all your 12V 1HZ parts with 24V parts :D
