These 40series are definitely an addiction. If I spent half as much time doing something productive or something that generates money as i did on these things, I'd be a rich man:)

Well as it stands I still have 3 kids (adults) from 22 to 26 still at home bleeding me dry like aphids no board from any of them, missus bit soft:confused:
so I have to fund the project from weekenders which means less work time on the project vicious circle:( Cheers:)

well so far got brackets & front bumper, now stripping front bumper of all the old coats of paint (joy) & doing the rust thing:confused: Hopefully my mates are still in to re assemble in 2 weeks as should have the old girl painted by then, after that:steer: till I wear the tyres out. :)

Been organising headliner & roll cage, front bumper, roof painted. would love to share pics as pretty pleased with progress but still blocked from posting:confused: Soon I hope Cheers All

Buy a silver star money goes to a good cause

Ok have the front bumper sorted, spent all yesterday afternoon stripping silicone from door jams ready to prime which doing this afternoon, then on to the bonnet & everything else in primer for a big sanding session tomorrow to Top coat:) "Tired now think I'll go home" Forest gump knew what he was talking about.

Sweet cruiser and a good year ! rare ! the aluminum work that was done has me very curious and concerned !
Wondering how the aluminum is connected to the 1/4 panels ? are the 1/4 panels aluminum also ?
When fastening aluminum to steel you need a gasket between the two metals to eliminate electrolysis. Over time corrosion will occur and once started will accelerate. Some procedures include using compounds between the two metals such as specialized silicones to fasten.
Seeing the aluminum reminds me of a friends truck they once bought and eventually sold : I had looked underneath at the rear bed and it was rebuilt with aluminum stop signs and other roadway signage, metal and aluminum just connected with screws and silicone.
Kind of a nightmare to me. The aluminum work looks pretty decent on your truck , I just wonder how it was connected is all !
You've got a great truck their in my opinion ! 1983 1984 the first and last year with power steering and 5 speed.
Cheers

You need to schedule a meeting with the nearest Marine, Army, Navy, or Air Force recruiter. Just make sure the wife is out of town, lol.

Well PO had used a nightmare combo of checkerplate with rivets & siliconeo_O Suprise! He used it in the back tub, guards, front bonnet, & footwells:bang: spent many hours removing silicone & grinding rivets back. All gone now:) had to cut out floor plates & reweld new in with 150mm overlap, was surprised that this was the only really bad area for rust. Have used sound deadning in the footwells & will re vinyl the floor when money becomes available ( Christmas bleeding me dry :santa:) Hope everybody has good Christmas & gets to enjoy a break Cheers

If you replace that metal in steel make sure to go 16 gauge and not 18ga ! 18 is thinner ! you will also need under bed channels, they are called hat channels if you talk to a metal fab shop. get them at a length of 42 inches then you can cut to fit, you will need 3 or 4 of them. The rear bed is supported by body mounts on this channel.
If you have any questions I have already done this so just pm me and ask !
I had cut the rusty metal out of my bj42 and rebuilt in 16ga stainless from the door posts to rear inside and out.
It's all good so just enjoy !

Hey Alberta, cheers mate have already done replacement in rear quarters & as you said in 16 guage. Electrics will be the big sort out project next. Just waiting on my mate to come round & sort out the hieroglyphics wiring diagram that seem to make sense to himo_O Cheers

Was in the Army for 7yrs have tried to get the idea it's a good option but they a least did cadets & know how to shoot ( I might be a bit of a gun nut, or so it's been said) Cheers

Most parts on & now on to the Electrical, still have to wait for my sparky mate to check over all the wiring (hate waiting, but can't push a freebie) Just making the list of what has to be done before the road trip. Looking at it is a bit depressingo_O

Latest work, did the front wiper motor (thanks to posts about this on site) Working!! did the rear loom fror lic. plate assembly.
took her out for a shake down drive:steer: Lots of rattles etc. still have to do the aircon. redo roll cage (first one sucked!!) thinking about soft top.
Making up draws for the rear to carry rifles etc. then flat floor across the wheel hubs, should neaten things up a bit & still fiddling with door & bonnet adjustments. Holidays nearly over so rekon things might slow down a bit have a breather & take stock of where to go after that:)

Fun times. If you are thinking of selling your hard top I'm looking for one, mine is a soft top I'm wanting to go back to hard top.
Which ac are you going to be running ?

Original A/C unit just getting it flushed , new pipes, little reconditioning & re gassed. PO had taken it out for some reasono_O
Nice try but keeping the hard top, just in case & I'm learning never part with any spare parts unless you have two of them :)
If you are looking for a hard top best guy in Vic that deals with 40 series is Ken from Eureka 4x4 in dandenong. His factory is full of parts, frames, hard tops etc. He is my go to guy. He has had people come from Sydney to get stuff as it's all he does. Cheers

Re tapped all the bolt threads & replaced with new bolts, roof rack coming up. All in all pretty pleased with the progress. will get more done & update progress & failureso_O bound to happen. Cheers
