I need a radiator for my 1982 BJ42, I posted in the wanted to buy and diesel parts section but have had no luck. Thought I would try here. Any help or leads would be really appreciated.

Mine has started showing signs of slight "weeping" so I am in the same boat. I hear Toyota Japan still has them ;)

If your looking for the one that has the intlet on the left side (clears the factory power steering pump # 16400‑56111) you/we are out of luck. I am also looking for one and here in Japan Toyota does not have one.

You can get 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser Radiator at affordable rates. It would cost you around $230.

So they reckon for 1982 - a BJ42 radiator is the same as an FJ40 radiator which is the same as a BJ60 radiator!

I'd steer clear of them!

I think getting your old radiator repaired is the best option. A decent old-school repair shop should be able to source replacement header-tanks (if yours are cracked) and replacement cores can be easily sourced.

You beat me to it.

Im tempted to try one of these aluminium radiators one day just to see if they live up to their claims.
Only $190 USD and in the US as well(assuming it is for a BJ4*).

Its getting harder to find people that can do those kind of repairs. Thirty years ago the owner of my local radiator shop hand made a tropical radiator for me to fit the chev V8 in my HQ Holden.
The business has been sold 3-4 times since then and the current owner cant tell s*** from chocolate.

Ross, and I thought you aussies were better off than us ?? Well today,Toy Japan couldn't telephonically confirm that they could still produce a radiator via their suppliers, so now I have to wait for confirmation. At least they refused my offer to pay the 50% deposit

Cheap throwaway parts/cars are overwhelming everything.

The BJ4* radiators on aussie ebay are most likely made in Taiwan or Malyasia but are equal to what can be made in Japan.
I had one on my FJ73 and it kept everything cool, even on the hottest days in low range with the aircon on full bore.

I thought all 40 series parts production stopped years ago.

I found an old school radiator shop that said they could fab up a new bottom tank and make mine nearly good as new!!! Sure hope they are right.

LOL this is the reply I got from him when I asked him if he knew that BJ40 and FJ40 used different radiators
It seems you have to look at the pics and work it out for yourself.

hello,
thanks your letter.
i am sorry for replying late.
i thought that this radiator is fit for BJ40/42.
pls see the pictures and confirm.
best regards

Can confirm that Toy Japan do not stock them. Got a 2nd/3rd opinion and will repair this one.

Discovered a slight intermittent leak in the head gasket, originally thought to be a welch plug ... :frown:

This radiator is listed for a 1983 3B on Spectra Premium website. But i beleive the bottom outlet is on the wrong side, could someone confirm it is on the wrong side.

On my 1982 bj42 the bottom outlet is on the left or drivers side, the same side as the upper inlet.

Did you re-core that radiator? I own a 1980 BJ41. I re-cored mine and am so glad I went that route. Find a top notch shop, get the best re-core possible, spend a bit extra for extra cooling to protect that diesel. That is what I did and man am I happy with the results. Good luck. Post some pics. fjfjfj

Nation wide Radiators in oz shows actual pics of their radiators and they have this one for the BJ40/41/42.

The BJ radiator is the type where the coolant flows from one side to the other in the top half and then back to the other side in the bottom half, which is why top and bottom spouts are on the same side.

Nice looking 40 ,was that on ebay a while back?

Does anyone know if the radiators at Nation Wide Radiators in OZ are of good quality? I had my OEM radiator repaired but am thinking of new if they are decent.
