Welcome to ih8mud.

I've never heard any paint code given for the bumpers.

But codes are irrelevant in my opinion anyway. You are much better off giving a paint supplier a sample (that's preferably got a surface that hasn't been exposed and faded by the sun) and getting them to match it. (They need to match the DRIED colour to the sample.)

If someone sells you paint that's supposedly mixed to a Toyota paint code, then it unlikely to perfectly match the colour you've got (and just as unlikely to perfectly match the true factory colour).

The pigments used to make paints are changing all the time ... So even when a customer has been ordering the same colour for years, the supplier needs to alter their mixing ratios, and colour-matching errors creep in...

But of course I guess you'd have to deal with paint codes if your cruiser's been repainted by a PO and you aim to change it to a factory colour for which you cannot provide a sample.

By the "grill" I presume you mean the bezel. (That rectangular pressed-steel thing of very thin sheetmetal that your headllights peer through.) If so, that and the roof are Cygnus White which is Toyota Code 012.

PS. How about posting some pics of your BJ42?

thanks tom, I will take them to a spray painter to do, or maybe a powdercoater.I will post some pics soon , i just got it from queensland originally from mount isa , only done 72000kms , no rust at all no leaks just needs a tidy up. thanks for reply.

Mate its only a bumber bar thats going to be trashed landcrushing the bush. I would do a good prep job and jam it with a rattle can for easy touch up in the future.

Wow!

I've never seen charts like those before.

Certainly too early for any connection with Slider's 1982 BJ42 but if you do find out where you got it from, please post up the details..

(That's some more literature I don't have! :frown:)

Glad you like that

the 55 bumper color , T1434, should be the same for any year 40 or 42.

I think it came out of a massive 40/55 series hard cover parts book, I have boxes of that stuff,

You ARE the master of the info... Would love to spend a day and scour thru all your stuff... I need to start PDFing some of my hard copies of some things i recently aquired.... I would be at it for a lifetime if I had the amount you got :)

ozcruiser, i know its only the bumpers but i would like to keep to original specs.it only has 72000ks all standard including split rims original am radio (hate) original suspension & plug in mechanics light & no rust .i will be going off road(not a pussy) but want to keep spec.

Its been a few but I know you could get a new OEM painted bumper from Toyota for not a bad price, if I recall it was less than $150US, now it may be one of those parts that is no longer available, but I was more than happy with the ones I bought and they are painted the correct color, most I have seen repainted are close....but for me not close enough.

I've never seen an lx with split rims. Tom: was that even an option on the '82 lx?

Sounds like a nice rig. You should send it to America for a full resto and sell it to a collector.

I'm not the expert you may think I am Josh...

I don't really know whether it was officially part of the LX package.

Somehow I doubt it because split-rims were standard on non-LX models, wheels are so easily swapped and made "trendy", and I always considered the LX branding to be principally Toyota's way of moving out the last of the 40-series stock while it wanted to concentrate on selling 60-series.

But quite a few Aussis have always preferred split rims (and quite rightly too in my opinion), especially in the remote regions. So I'm sure if anyone expressed such a preference to a dealer when trying to buy an LX, they would not only have got them but achieved a discount on the price too.

(For years 16 inch split-rims were simply being dumped as vast numbers of owners bought fancy off-road tyres that at that time were available only in 15 inch sizing. Not to mention the preference of most people at that time for wider tyres than the splitrims could safely accomodate.)

The blue LX with the gal hanging out the rear widow is AUS, the rest are Japanese spec, which as you can see had even cooler items yet

the AUS version of the lx came out in 1982, it had the different dash a year before it became standard.

Yes the Jp spec one are sweet ... I like the 'L' package a bit more than the 'LX' ... The AU blue with the mother-in-law gasping for air out the rear sliding window is great... Notice that it doesn't have an LX label and has two wipers (this is a discussion for another thread)

I couldn't remember if that was AU or not... Had to read thu after the kids were put to bed... But clearly it is

But... It does show the split rims as well
