High desert dreaming in the swamps.
Au$20,000, she got to without breaking reserve....that's nearly US$22,000. Ever since aussies found out Americans like cruisers they have been using their Chinese mining boom money to drive up the prices of these rigs. Aussies sometimes have pretty silly ideas of what things are worth, but I guess this is just what these are worth now.
That didn't even look like a very nice resto; the rear doors did not even have weatherstrip and the driveline had obviously not been touched. Amazing.

And I thought I saw on the listing (maybe in the Q&A), that it had 290,000 km, or roughly 200,000 miles. That seems like a lot of mileage for the price.

I agree Evan, crazy. I guess in a country where a new Camry costs over $50k, an average house is close to $600k and a gallon of petrol costs over $6, $20k for a car with only 200,000 and a new coat of paint is a screaming deal.

And this one in Cairns. I'd bea bit worried about it being so far up north, but it looks clean (and it comes with a fancy doorknob for teh glove box!). I also note another LX in the background of one of his shots, so perhaps he is a collector. Decent price, but shipping will add a bit to that to get it to Syd or Melb for roro to LA.

A couple of those have serious cow-catcher bumpers, or maybe down under they're roo-catchers?!?

Also interesting that Toyota gave them such different seating configurations than the 40's we see here in the states. Any idea why that would be?

Aussies like the football helmet look the bull bars give 40s. They also like chrome and white raised letters, so no accounting for taste.

Australia did not require roll bars in the 40 as the US did from 74, so perhaps that accounts for some of it. The lx was licenced to carry six people, so registration was a little bit cheaper (as it can be registered as a 'van' rather than a car). Not sure if there are other reasons.

You do realize that no one in HDC is going to import a rig in from Australia.....

I live in perpetual hope, Onur.

I thought David L. obtained his from OZ.

I plan on getting a troopy at some point, and if I can't find a reasonable one already here in the states, I may consider importing one.

I can assist with that Ron... Right here in UT....

My boss is looking to get rid of a number of high-quality non-US rigs if you are interested... One being an HJ47 troopie.

:)

funny that other one hit 20k, this one seems nicer. Doesn't say what year, so is it a 4-speed or 5-speed?

And if you want a real unique one and are willing to do some work, I'm considering selling my poptop. Sorry, it's not all Toyota....

Ron,

If I were you, I'd pick up David's Troopy.

I'd guess 5 from memory. This one's in Cairns, so that will deter allot of buyers with money.

I agree, this one looks way nicer.

Ron: I agree with Ash: buy David's. It's very clean, a pop top and you can drop a vortec in it in a day.

I really want one, but have a few things holding me back.

1.) I do not have anywhere to park/work on it, so it will likey sit idle for a few years somewhere before I could really get it up to snuff.
2.) Kids are still in boosters, and I don't want to mess with those in something without the safety features of a newer vehicle.
3.) I will barely crack 6-digits this year on my LC. I barely put about 5k a year on it, and if I had a running troopy, neither would be used very often.
4.) Camping outings with the family would require the LC, to be able to pull the pop-up.

Unless I am blown a way with just a smokin' deal, I doubt I will pull the trigger for a few years.
