okay, I intend to carry on this build thread, so to start here is a picture of its new home. I have started on the power steering conversion, pretty much finished by the previous chap just sorting the linkages out. On the last picture can anyone recognise what model land cruiser the track rod end is from. This one must have been beaten off its last home and its crushed the thread, so I need to replace . The other issue I have at the moment is that the damper off my donor bj40 does not extend enough to use the original location bracket and the one that came with the build(i assume came with the track rod end I am after) does not compress enough. I did measure the amount of travel I needed but cant find them tonight. Can custom dampers be bought? if so where from?

body mounting kit question.

I have finally finished the power steering and I am in the process of fixing the tub and cowl to the chassis, the mounting kit is pretty obvious but I have two square pieces of rubber/nylon and was wondering where they go? are they just spacers if required or do they go somewhere in particular. Once I have done this I can drill through the cowl for the steering column. I need to work out how to get the pedal box into the cowl but there must be an angle I have not found yet to slide it in there.

You should have rubber spacers for all mounting points. The mount under the front outside is the thicker of them all.

I have had a suggestion that the rubbers mounts go between the outrigger and the bottom of the running boards, seems like a good idea else it would be metal on metal.

Ok, things are starting to move a little, after today, I now have a steering wheel, Pedal box, clutch master and brake jobby fitted(not working)
I have taken a few pics of how we got around steering issues. Problem being as the 40 steering column only has one bearing by the steering wheel due to it usually going straight onto the steering box, now that we have an extra UJ to connect up to the steering pump we have excessive play in the steering column and needed to fit another support bearing in somewhere. This is how we did it (we = my mate rodger and I)

Aha!!! its been so long the thread was closed.... Kindly its been reopened again and things have moved on slightly, not greatly but slightly. Doors hinges have been drilled, windscreen mounts fitted, the wiring loom threaded and a turbo manifold has been attached. In fact I changed the engine for a 3B 3.4 that I got out of a donor. This summer is the push to get it rolling as I have a few weeks off shortly and it really is time to get it moved. Pics to follow

Welcome back

Right time to try and align all the front panels and see if the bonnet sits ok..

Interesting

what was cool though today, I unpacked the aluminum checker plated side steps and inside I found a build Video from AluTub. Lets see if it helps with getting everything to fit.

anyone out there done a complete aluminum tub build?
