I have a 1981 BJ40 (24volt version) that was missing its EDIC controller. I’m looking for a replacement unit but have a question. I see the odd one out there for sale however wonder about the interchangeability / compatibility of them with respect to model of diesel engine. Can anyone comment on this? Are all EDIC’s the same or are they designed differently for each specific engine model. Once I can confirm this then I can confidently purchase what’s right!

I think you'll struggle to find a good reliably working one.. there's a few different EDIC motors, so I assume even aside from the 12V vs 24V differences there's going to be a few different Fuel Controller Relays..

I am guessing you've already considered just running a Stop Cable?

Thanks. I have installed a stop. Able which works ok. Would really like to have a functional EDIC but this is unlikely to happen it seems.

I recently got a 12v one working in my truck. Once I got my head around it, it wasn't that difficult to install and tie into the harness.

Edic motor has 4 wires from the controller, on top of that controller sees B+, keyed + and start. Plus the oil pressure switch for the low oil shutdown.

I wouldn't be super afraid of it. Or of the different variations.

I found a few threads where they were being worked on and repaired, as well as a few new variations being built.

Not cheap mind you. Useful thread...

Had mine working on the bench before I went so far as to try to install.
