I have a bone stock 85 fj60. I want 33's or 35's how much lift do I need and what is the best way to achieve that lift. SOA or SUA I am scarried of the SOA due to the custom fab requrred. I am quit handy but not that good of a welder. I live in Coeurd'Alene Idaho not many 4x4 shops around. Most are jeeps guys.

If you are scared of fab work then definitely stick to something bolt on meaning stick with SUA.

You can use the OME 2.5" lift or I guess it looks like some folks are calling it 3.5" these days and a 2" body lift. Body lifts on a 60 are relatively easy to do and they aren't ugly like some trucks. And now you can even buy them from Roger Brown, back in the old days I had to make my own. In addition to that I recommend 3.25" backspaced 15x8 wheels for those new 35s. That will help keep them off the inside of the wheel wells above the frame and they will still clear the outer edge of the fender lip.

Alcan Spring Co. can get you a spring under lift that will fit 35"s. A few people are running that set up on here now.

i did ome heavies front and back, 1.25" body spacers from 4 crawler, with the 5 3/8" shackles from 4+ all the way around, and 1.5" wheel spacers with 8" wheels from summit. to keep the front from still rubbing i had to lower the bump stops a bit. also, all of this stuff changed both front and rear DS angles to the point that I had to get a double cardan for the front, and fix the angle on the rear.

if I had to do it over again i woulda gone SOA with some flat springs...

truck sits nice now, drives straight (4 degree shims on the front for caster correction), and is stable at 90mph, but is pretty stiff on the trails.

on the most dificult trails here in Co, it rubs in the front still.

hope this helps.

For 35's the solution has been posted.

I have a bone stock 85 fj60.
I want 33's or 35's how much lift do I need and what is the best way to achieve that lift.

What will it take to put 35's on my 60.

I would go SOA if I had to do it over again.

The 3.5" is the Ultra Heavy Duty lift. If you carry a lot of gear and your vehicle is weighted down down all the time it is a good option. If you install them and your rig is empty, be prepaired for a bouncy ride.

the only way ( IMOP ) to run 35" on a SU 60 series are BDS, Alcans or OME with shacke reversal and longer rear shackles ..

I'm with D'animal .. if where me 35" = SO

Kiffer,
This is a very decisive point in your rigs development. What is your final goal? 33's and a locker will get you farther than 35's without. What's your total budget?

To answer your question: 35's generally require a SOA. A SOA does require a lot of fab work but the CnT front axle can be sent out and done for you for about $200. Give me a call and I'll run you through the SOA info as I'm about to do it myself. Then you can gage whether or not it's worth the work.

The other option to fir 35's is trimming your fenders. Do you want to keep stock clean look or is trimming ok?

Sent you a pm w/ my number.
