gnx7 - in this hobby, the lifespan of your engine is inversely proportional to the amount of time and money you have in it. I'm fully convinced of that.. :grinpimp:

I hope that's not right in my case, otherwise my engine is going to quit sometime in the next 6 minutes.

I wanna see some day a rock buggy as yours Eskimo with a nice build 4BT, 6BTA or whi not .. 12H-T or 1HD-T turbo diesel engines .. certanly ( or at least here ) you must need to spend soem nice $$$$ in the rebuild .. but it gonna have long lasting engine ..

Blah, I HATE being behind a diesel on the trail. Guy here has a turned up 4bt with a TH400 behind it, turning rockwells and 49's.. damn thing works, but I don't wanna be behind it.

go for the big block. throw a 9" instead of a 60 in there.

strange 3rd, extra pinion support, 40 spline gun drilled shafts. if you break that, you'll probably need to go more beef than a 1 ton axle to not grenade it.

Did you have pics/web site to see it ..

I thought you said behind coz the smoke .? :D or he do the entire trail so easy ..

Tapage, why would a Diesel make a trail look easy? Yuck. Diesels belong in a tow rig or an expedition/trail rig, not a rock buggy.

Halo, look. Big blocks are cool to say you have, but a well built small block in a Cruiser will give you all the HP ant Torque you will be able to use with the driveline you plan on running.

I have wheeled tons of times with Drunk Monkey with his 454, and although it is a monster, I don't see it being that much of a big deal....definitly not worth the trouble for the cooling issues and the extra weight.

Get an LS-1 and be done with it.

true true.i was originally going to go with a LS1, but i still wanna build someting bitchin to beat this damn purple truck at the mud drags. really this is what its all about :)

I ran a 454 in my 40 back in 2001, was 440 rw hp running 36" swampers, 60 t case and gearbox, 4 wheel discs, and 75 power steering, we made it 98" wheelbase, and widened the track with 60 housings and offset rims as well, and it would still wheelstand in first on the road, and wind off the clock with 4.11's and 36" tyres with 10 psi in them, [rough calc 200kph or 120mph] I ran qjet big block buick carby, and it would give 16lt per 100km [25mpg US aprox I think] hwy cruising at 100kph [64mph] with the 4 speed.

Had hand made extractors and 3" exhaust on it, with straight through muffler, as big blocks arent loud.

It would also lug along at 400 rpm, while I dragged the brake, for wheeling slow, or in the snow, to get up on top of it, in 1st low, or 1st or 2nd high.

I ran all 40 drive train [apparently the cv's are week, but Ive never broken a cv] except 60 4 speed gearbox and t/case.

I ran a custom alloy radiator, hand built shroud and a big statesman fan, which pull 22% more air at idle than a standard viscous fan at the time, never got hot.

just finished some work on another which has motec injected 502 big block in 80 chassis with 75 series body, which is 440 rw kw [600 hp] and 1000 rw nm, and with correct radiator and fan, it doesnt get hot either, and runs 80 running gear with nissan patrol front centre, with 80 outers.

We are currently also building an 05 TJ with ls 1 and l60e auto, which has patrol diffs, and brakes, and 12" fox coil overs, but even with hand made exhaust, it doesnt sound like a big block.

Nothing sounds like a big block!

question is WHY ? for what application do you use the vehicle.

BBC costs 1/3 more then compareable SBC to build.
USED ? just an option.

power and the feel of is relative to each person and each application.

weight of and why ?

stock 9 cannot compare to stock 60, game set match. 9" costs more to build
to compare, bad pinion offset and drop, high 9 for those with pockets or find another axle to build, see 60 70 14 etc... not even going to start on semi and full float as you should know the answer.

like diesel option, and a small VW TDI motor in something might change others tune on them on the trail. i understand issues with the other not so friendly diesels. VW TDI, really like that motor. SEE mech TDI toy mini xtra cab over on pirate.

diesels do not like mud. they dont have the RPM range to do what we do.

im gonna be competing in a mud drag with it.

i wanna do wheelies on the street :D

aluminum head BBC is only 25 (IRC) lbs heavier than a iron head SBC.

why push the limits of a small block when i can have reliable BB power?

MUD, well that elimates about 3/4 of the posts already made that were about completely different elements.

diesel, gearing and shifts, can do anything, but requires building for it.

desired HP i seen numbers thrown out over wide range but nothing firm

pushing the limits of a small block ?

BBC is 150lbs heavier in stock trim to a SBC, i do not see 125lb loss
just in heads. 75lbs or so i can see. dont feel like going out and weighing
stuff.

requirements per class you want to run ?

2w or 4w drive ?

wheelies the street, LMAO, transbrake. could do that in my little sbc 350 ish HP in the full weight cruiser, little extra help with the hardtop on HA HA. shot of spray probably get it to flip all the way over, oops.

i do assume you wish to keep it streetable, then.

I do have a set of wide paddles laying around, i will never use. 21.5 15 or 18.5 15 i forget which. picked them up as a garage joke, put them on a drag car i was working on.
