It would be nice to finally meet you face to face George. It's a good time that's for sure,my kids are going for the first time and they are just as excited as me.

yeah, it'll be good to put some new names with faces. that's what's fun about most of these road trips we go on.
if we make this happen, and it sure looks like it's going to work out, then toploader and i will be flying to the east coast and driving a cruiser home. we'll make it co-incide with the event to make the trip even better! :steer:
i wonb't have my 40 buggy there, but we'll still do some wheeling.

georg

Cabin is reserved and longfields on order with a few other goodies. I will be ready to go when the time comes. We are still deciding on the kids, we know they would have fun but 3 days of trails might be a bit much since they have only been one other time. I might do one day of easy trails then do a couple harder ones byself while they go shopping.

It looks like a few of us (4-8 vehicles) from IL will be joining you guys. We will likely be at Wild Bills from the previous weekend through the middle of the following week.

Bring the whole fam. Thereis always something for them to do while you are out pounding on the 40!!

Thanks. We can't wait to wheel somewhere other than abandon quarries in the midwest!

What trails do you guys usually hit? Im curious what trails we should attempt to find before the bhcc starts...

I got a couple maps we can highlight for you all. Pretty nice forest service issues.

You need a off road permit per vehicle. I think an annual is about 25 bucks.

Castle peak is my favorite low key spot but if you have campers the road in is not to maintained.
Rent some cabins in Nemo or whispering pines campground is pretty central access to the entire black hills national Forrest if you drag the camper or motorhome.
Also if you want a full house to rent there is some nice ones by deadwood. If you want to party, smoke cigars, and gamble its a twenty dollar taxi back to your cabin!
Pm me if you want some travel suggestions. Happy Trails!

I'm thinking the trails that are open are gonna be filled with groups from the classic?

B Fletch could answer maybe?

woo hoo.. i got the time booked off and i am bringing the wife as well this year.. we will see how she likes driving 15 hours in the cruiser with no a/c and no radio from Saskatoon Saskatchewan to the event.. this may be her one and only cruiser classic.. lol..

i had such a good time last year meeting so many good people and talking cruisers around the campfire..

looks like i may be the only one coming from Saskatoon though!!

now i just have to find time to rebuild my 5 speed and install my toybox, put in a turbo, and mabey put in a stereo if time permits.. yikes.. looks like i am coming to enjoy the easy trails again.. oh well..

Glad you are going to make again. I will be on the easy trail the first day more than likely with the kidos then off to the tougher ones later. Who needs a radio that would be like a/c and lumbar.

We plan to be at wild bills for the whole 10+ days. And no cabins for us, we have a 5th wheel/slide in job (a woody), and the rest are tents. We plan to set up in the back area away from the road, where the hookups intermingle with the primitives. These plans are all based on no real knowledge, so they are subject to change as we learn us some stuff.

But maps are good! Thanks. I printed out all the forest service maps and downloaded the garmin file. But i hear that stuff doesn't help much.

paid for regestration and permit today!! that means the wife and i are going to be there.. i cant wait.. unfortunately the rubicon trip last year took some life out of the clutch and it is going on the cruiser and there isnt any time to do it.. so i will be doing mild trails for the first two days and then we are going to do some geocaching and exploring in the area for the rest of our time during the day while you guys are out beating up your trucks.. lol.. i sure wish i could trailer the cruiser sometimes but we drive it everywhere so its gotta get us home.. i am looking forward to seeing you guys again!!

hey jefishing! save us a spot if you can!! we will be there wednesday evening some time. just not at 1am in the morning like last year.. yikes.. we are actually bringing the rooftop tent and a spare ground tent for a "home base" to mark our spot..

wish us luck!! the wife doesnt deal with heat and noise to well and the cruiser is..... well, a cruiser.. no a/c no soundproofing, no nothing... I lOVE IT!!

UPDATE: 2012 Black Hills Cruiser Classic

UPDATE: 2012 Black Hills Cruiser Classic
With the hot and dry conditions in the Black Hills, fire and smoking restrictions have been put into place by the National Forest Service. The 2012 Black Hills Cruiser Classic (BHCC) is still scheduled to occur but we wanted to make participants aware of some changes this year due to the restrictions that have been put into effect as of July 3rd. Here is the link to the Stage 2 Fire and Smoking Restrictions order (http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5377719.pdf )issued by the USNFS for you to read but we wanted to cover a few of the items in this post as well.

Here is a few of the restrictions that will effect participants at the BHCC:
1. No open fires, including in established campgrounds
2. No smoking on the trails, except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer or building.
3. No welding or use of acetylene torches on the trail.

As per TLCA technical inspection rules we require every vehicle to carry an approved fire extinguisher in trail vehicles. This year due to the fire danger, the Dakota Territory Cruisers (DTC) will also require ALL participating vehicles to carry 5 gallons of water and a shovel in addition to the TLCA requirement. This is simply a precautionary measure to assure everyone is safe when participating in event trail runs.

As stated above the 2012 BHCC is still scheduled for July 18th - 21st, but we feel it is our duty to inform participants that there is potential that our event permit can be cancelled if the National Forest Service deems that the fire danger is too high. We will be in contact with the National Forest Service Recreational Specialist and will notify participants of any changes as soon as possible if they occur.

We hope everyone travels safely to the Black Hills, bring lots of water to drink and pray for rain!!
See you all at the 2012 Black Hills Cruiser Classic!
