Do you know if Nitto was even tested as a candidate for the list?
Having run both (albeit on different rigs) I had way more flat issues on the BFG's, but again, not a head-to-head comparison with same rig on same terrain at the same treadlife. You also haven't done a head-to-head comparison, so your information is even more biased than mine.

FACTS?
FACTS ARE that the KO is the number ONE selling AT truck tire for years running. There IS a reason for this especially because they come at a HIGHER cost than others.
Maybe all the BUYERS and MANUFACTURERS are just STUPID for buying the KO's...and have been stupid for many years in a row. I doubt it.
Firestone Destination MT, they are sleepers - Quietest MT out there at highway speed, extremely strong sidewalls. Excellent pull in mud rocks etc, and are studded for extreme ice applications. I have had 3 sets, and i will never run another tire. I have averaged 50k on my first 2 sets with 4 tire rotation alignment and balance at every oil change. I previously had BFG ATs, i had 2 fall apart completely, and another with a sidewall puncture. If you experience any mud, you will go nowhere. I will never own a bfg tire again unless it is the KM2 (new technology!). The AT is old technology and all name (in my humble opinion).
And I can't wait to get my KM2's off the 100. They have done nothing for me that my KO's did for 10-years and KM's did on my 80's. They are now noisy...they wore uneven...the truck pulls some even after alignment. That said...they did wat they were designed for extremely well...off-road traction.
The KO's wear more even...have taken me up every rock I have ever tried...and no flats. They keep quiet and last a long time. I've put them through hell and they always hung in there.
OK...I did get a flat on my old 80-Serie's KO. It was a sidewall tear...a DRIVER error as I drove too close to a tree with a stubby sticking out due to a huge drop off. BLAMING THE TIRE IS PLAIN DUMB! I guarantee you that any AT tires sidewall would have torn as well in this situation...and the KM2's as well.

You sure like to reference CR a lot! I don't hold their ratings in high regard for anything automobile related but anyway, I happen to remember CR including the NTG in their test about 5 years ago. CR rated them #1 overall for AT tires. I even posted about it.
My point is, your argument, as usual, is invalid.
Getting warmer. BFGs remain good tires in certain applications. People buy them because they do an "ok" job in most conditions, and the tread compound lasts a long, long time. I've seen BFGs dry rotted that still have usable tread left, but that long life comes with a tread compound that hardens as it wears, and becomes more noisy, and long life doesn't change the fact that the tread PATTERN is old tech, and doesnt do a very good job of cleaning out. There are better options out there for people who want a tire that does better than "ok" in conditions like rain, snow, and mud - even in the all terrain category. A tire costing less doesn't automatically make it inferior, and that seems to be what you are insinuating.
John, I try not to jump into stuff like this but what axe are you grinding here? Are you so brand myopic that you can't/won't acknowledge good alternatives when they are brought up? What personal experience can you bring to the table that indicates nittos are a cheap tire? Lots of folks on here, myself included, can attest otherwise.

HA! That was just what came up on a Google Search. Nice try though. Did you see me pull up their ratings? Nice try! LOL!
It's not rocket science to know that Nitto is a value-branded label. They're like buying an LG-brand TV. Good, affordable, hits a lower price point...but EVERYONE knows they are not as good as Sony.

I will drop one piece of info. I partially validate products by observing what industrial leaders use on their own vehicles.
In this case, check out the 100 Land Cruiser gallery on Slee Off Road's website. You will notice a theme that most of the vehicles, including Slee's personal 100 I believe, have Nitto Terra Grapplers installed.
That speaks volume to their credibility in my mind. Someone like Slee can obviously select and afford any tire he wanted, yet he selected that one. Must be for good reason, no?

That might be your perception of the brand, but I fail to see how a tire automatically gets lumped into the "value label" section of the market because they aren't quite as expensive as another tire. What makes them different from BFG?

Edit 2: for kicks and giggles I hopped on discounttire.com and punched in tires available in 285 75 16 as a general reference point. E rated BFGs and D rated Nittos are the same price. Interesting.

Discount has the Nitto for 208 a tire in 285 75 16 D and the BFG at 205 for the same
Nick, where are you. Didn't you have an entire set of BFG ATs disintegrate?

For the record, IMO, the BFG AT/KO is a good tire. I've had two sets... just didn't keep them for very long.
I've had a few sets of BFG's on pick ups and Jeeps in the past. Never on my Cruiser though. They were fair but were terrible in the mud. I guess it depends on your applications. I have the Nitto TG's on my 100 now and have been sold on them.
In my area it's flat and muddy. The BFG AT are a bad option if you plan to off road. I still like the tire toughorit could be I love te way they look.

For the record, imo, the bfg at/ko is a good tire. I've had two sets... Just didn't keep them for very long.
