Which Warn 8274 replacement motor should I go with?
Is horsepower the best rating factor for power?
Your experience in this area would be appreciated.
I did some search but did not find what I was looking for.
Thanks
Gary

My experience: tried the DB Electric Chinese motor, and it lasted about 6 months. After that, I bought a new Warn 6hp motor for their 9.5XP winch, and that is still working great years later. I am a happy camper. The 9.5XP motor costs about 3X what the DB Electric one does.

Depends on how much you want to spend and how much you will use your wince. I went with one of those $80 ones off Amazon also on ebay. Never actually winched anything with it but seems to run good. If I planned to really use the winch and go off roading often I would pay the $200 and get a real warren replacement. Then if you want to go all out you can do the dual motor replacement or that $450 dollar one. But I think the warn motor for about $200 would still winch your fj40 into a tree if needed.

is the 9.5XP motor part # 68608?
Good info, I was looking at the DB Electric motor and had read some on them.
Thanks

Yes, that is the part number for the motor I used (# 68608). If you have an early 8274 like mine, you will also need to buy the splined (not keyed) pinion gear to go on the end of the new motor, which is part # 15879. If your stock motor has a splined shaft and not a smooth shaft with a key way, then you won't need the new pinion gear.
