I use the OEM Toyota without the buttons and then a YotaMD fob.

Durability and cost. The non-fob key from Toyota is like $10 vs $300. And no more cracked cases.

I have two of the non-fobbed that I programmed to my system as masters. One is hidden on the vehicle as I had intermittent door lock issues where the vehicle would lock itself. The other is at my house. Then I had received on fobbed master that was synced to the system (buttons lock/unlock doors) that I use daily and another that is just a spare. Note that when you are programming the keys to the ECU, there is a maximum of 8 slots for keys. This is masters AND slaves. So every time you "lose" a key you will still have it programmed into the system unless you go through and delete all keys and then reprogram to the ECU, at least for my '98 there is no way to see all the keys and just delete a specific one.

1010keys on eBay sells and cuts OEM Denso keys. Bought 4 from them a few years ago, no issues.
For the time and effort involved with programming on the early years, I'd go genuine Toyota/Lexus. ~$125 from McGeorge and should last decades..... if you pair it with a YotaMD kit.

I have two eternity keys that are super tough. Not sure if they still make them for lcs though.
