I'm looking to replace springs and add lift to my Jan 1981 FJ 40 and run 33 x 10.50 (12.50).

What is the best setup.?

I have looked at HFS..pricey!

OME Dakar / TPI ....moderate.

SOR...bad reviews.

I was going to go with Skyjacker for the price, but won't fit my 81.

Thoughts?

Use the search engine and you will find more info than you can imagine on this subject.

Check your pricing, CCOT HFS comes either piece meal or as a complete kit. The complete kit (unless something has changed) includes shocks, shackles and sway bar extensions (for the 60). The CCOT HFS was lower cost than the OME set up.

Most would agree that OME is the better suspension. So, if you have the money, that is probably the way to go.

On the other hand, I did not have the money. For the cost of the OME suspension, I got the CCOT HFS suspension and had it installed and it was still less money.

I'm happy with the ride and after 2 years it still looks good.

I have the HFS on both my wife's 40 and my 60.

www.TPI4x4.com quoted me on Old Man Emu Springs with TPI Anti-Reverse shackles for $886 + $231 shipping = $1117 Total.

The 4" HFS/CCOT kit does not include shackles therefore $400 more.
$1047.61 Springs
$283.36 Shackles
$200 shipping guess
= $1530 Total

I dont get as much lift with the TPI setup, but better value.

I also dont get a girlie poster to hang in my garage!

Alcans??

OME Dakar's are Hella-good for the price.

Easy on the kidneys and great ride. I run 33x10.50's no prob..but I also threw on some MAF anti-inversion shackles that were +1".

I just bought the BTBprod 4inch leafs and i am rollin on 33x10.5 BFG M/T. i think it looks radical. it was a hair over 600 just for the leafs and the poly urth. still getting some shocks to work in there. trying to puts some fox shox 2.0 in there. i will eventully make some front hoop shock mounts.

We put the Hell Creek suspension kit on my dad's 77 and were really impressed with it. Alot less expensive than the OME and HFS and for us no problems to date. They are also great people to work with. Great customer service.

Bringing this back from the dead. How did this work out? I am looking to swap out the old rigid suspension on my 40.

haha for sure! Sorry I revived such an old thread but not many '81's on here. lol. I am reading through his build thread now
