Best fit for 60/62 door speakers?

The PO of my 62 cut the door panels and put in bigger speakers that were exposed, which I didn't like. I picked up some used panels with the stock speaker covers and found that the inside of the panel could be cut just a little bit to accomodate the bigger speakers without compromising the protective outer cover. So, not sure if I'm offering you much help here but the upshot of this is that you can go one size up from stock speaker size and be OK. I don't recall the size of the speakers-maybe 4" instead of 3-and have no recommendations on brand names.

I have 5 1/4" JL Audio that fit perfectly and you can use the factory speaker grills to keep it looking "stock". I would think that pretty much any 5.25 would work just fine.

I used 5.25 sony explodes. I had to use washers under the speaker to space it away from the door so the glass clears it.

To make the door panel fit better you can use aftermarket door snaps from Napa that space the panel out a bit. I used these longer snaps just around the speaker part of the door panel. The door snaps are on the shelf.

In my 89 I made small spacers to mount 5.25s in my doors for them to fit perfect behind the factory grills. I did not want to cut any metal. In my 87 I used a set of Pioneer coaxials that used to be called 5.25s, but now would more considered 6". I mounted them through the factory panel and into the metal in the door with just a small amount of panel trimming. I liked the sound MUCH better of the larger speaker and did not mind the aftermarket look.

Looks nice, Gary, but of course all of your trucks are incredible! I will look at 6" ones too.

See you at the November meeting hopefully; I'll try my best to make it. We need to catch a beer.

I put 5 1/4" polk audio's in the front doors, the only problem I had was the depth. I ended up using a spacer that gave it about 1" more depth. It was more than necessary, but I did my install in a circuit city parking lot and that was all they had.

I think you could put 6 1/2's up front with out too much hassle.

BTW, this was before the annoying circuit city ads on mud.
