I did search, but didn't find a whole lot of information. I am installing a H42 in my 1988 FJ62 that will have a FJ79 pick-up body mounted on it and will need a heavy duty clutch. What does everyone recommend and where to get it?

I have heard good things about the kit sold by Marvin's Crawlers.
Ebay has Luk for under $200.00 which I have heard good things about, but maybe made in China and crap after all?
I'm sure OEM is good choice? Cost from Dan?
Napa?
Exedy?

Thanks...

hey,my 2 cents, get the original toyota heavy duty one...i have heard nothing but good about them.

I have an HD from Specter that does pretty well, it was an Aisin if I recall correctly. As was stated above, you'd be well served to go with anything Aisin/ OE.

Hey sounds like your building a pretty cool truck. I just did my clutch and I used a daikin brand which is japanese and considered oem quality but i would definitely go for oem toyota if you can. The daikin clutch came with a new throw out bearing and alignment tool but no pilot bearing, or rear main seal but i don't believe any come with that. I'm all about changing the parts while your there but i was short on parts with this kit so i didn't change the pilot bearing. mine ran me about 150 which is shop cost where i work so if you can get toyota oem around 200 i would go for it....otherwise the daikin has been a good alternative.

I am kind of leaning towards Marlin's kit. It is on sale this weekend, not that that really matters, for $169.00. He doesn't state that the disc is Aisin, but it leads you to believe it is on their site and has a Japanese made TO bearing. Does this appear to be a decent kit in quality for the money?

I also looked at Specter's kit, which is more money, but you get a rear main seal. I'm buying a clutch though and that is the main concern. Specter's has the rubber dampers in the disc vs Marvin's springs. I was always led to believe that springs were better?

I think that clutch is for a 4 cylinder truck, you may want to call Marlin to confirm for a 60. I hope I'm wrong as that is a rockin price.

That is for a FJ60 according to Marlin's site.

I too vote for the Aisin/Asco w/ Koyo TO and pilot bearings. Widely available for a decent price.

Are the rubber dampers on the disc less reliable/strong/longevity than the spring design like those pictured above in the Marlin Kit? It seems Marlin's is a reputable company and I assume their clutch would be of good quality.

I take it the same clutch that's used in 4-spd 60 series is also still used when converting to an H55?

I ask since I'm converting my 62 to an H55 (hopefully. it looks like the money I sent via PP still hasn't been accepted) and was wondering I can just use an '87 60 as a vehicle reference when getting a clutch.

Best price I have found for Aisin components. Shipping is free over $59

Anytime I find a good deal I put the link in my thread below in my sig. If you find one better let me know and I'll add it.

I like the Marlin kit as well. I like the heavy duty pressure plate looks like the finger design is better.

Also Aisin came out with a Torque Master clutch last year. I have yet to use one but from the looks of it it might be a really good upgrade.

It's the same clutch for the H55F.
