Took delivery last month.

It’s a great car. First EV. Great garage mate for the LC200. Works awesome for the wife and the kids. I love driving it every chance I get.

Worried about doing any long range trips due to range anxiety but I think it could work.

Gas has spiked this past month so it’s a relief as wife and kids gas bill was almost 75% of the monthly payment for the R1S. Running all family errands and weekend sports we see the car use 20-30% of charge in a day. Charges overnight in 4-6 hours. Probably costs $5-8 bucks.

They’ll have to pry the LC200 or any ICE car out of my cold dead hands but as a complimentary car and for an around the town people mover it’s great.

It might be a little blasphemous to say but it’s like a EV Land Cruiser.

Has shown to be pretty capable off road. With 4 independent motors will be very interesting what kind of traction control software they can come up with for off-road.

Has the beloved split tail gate.

3 row full size SUV.

And they both get horrible MPG…can’t go more then 300 mi without worrying about refueling….😉

Is the rear wiper crooked from the factory?
haha didn't even notice. i think is it's OEM horizontal.

On that note

QC has been mixed. I would say about 85-90% of the car is put together correctly.
There are some panel gaps and alignment issues.
The interior is very very good.

They have been responsive about taking note of all the issues and promising to fix them.
After an initial inspection I did leave the car there for a week while finishing paperwork they did resolve a few of the issues.

Awesome, glad to hear that. In the summer, I was up in Novia Scotia, and my friend from Boston met me in his Rivian truck (56kmiles). He was happy with it.

Here in LA, the SUV is everywhere. At least 6-7 in our school drop off line. QC I doubt matters to the average buyer. Kind of like when Tesla was new. My inlaws bought 2 of them, and the panel gaps were horrible. But they aren't car people, they never cared about it. The cars work fine for them.

Hope you get many years of good service from them :) If I can take a section 179 with some other breaks, maybe in another 1.5 years, will get one for the wifey.

The R1S seems like a great rig but the above statement disqualifies it from "EV landcruiser" to me.

In fairness Toyota has had what, 60 years or so, to hone their craft? 85-90% put together is wild good for a new vehicle manufacturer.
Sure, which is why no newer auto manufacturer will build anything on the level of the landcruiser. They'll have awesome qualities in their own right, but for the reasons so many of us buy these things... Which kindof makes OP's case.

haha its all in good fun

yeah you appreciate the toyota build quality more and you realize how you take it for granted how complex and hard it is to build millions of cars with even panel gaps....

But of course our LC's have their inexplicable quirks like water leaks in the passenger footwell, busting radiators, 80's tech infotainment, peeling steering wheels

But I am glad the R1S is much more "car-like" then tesla which seems to be almost a different genre

The tech is very cool and fun.
Changing the ride height at the touch of a button (we'll see how long this lasts)
On board air compressor
0-60 in 3 sec

2 very different cars....which serve very different purposes and needs
With some overlap
But I do like seeing some of the similarities with the LC

My car feels light after driving the Rivian for a while...LOL
(although I think their stated weight are both around 7000#)

Nice buy! I've been DD'ing electric since 2015 and it's a great way to save money to fill up the ol' guzzler for weekend warfare. Admittedly, my DD is a helluva lot cheaper than an R1S :hillbilly:

O man, that hit a nerve.

Rivian was probably smart enough to benchmark the LC and incorporate this feature on the basis of what makes an "adventure vehicle."

Contrasting with Toyota internal designers declaring they know better and we don't need this feature on the basis of efficiency and weight savings... even as the R1S is 10x more efficient than any LC.

I rented a R1T and toured about 600 miles in the Portland area for vacation. Beautiful vehicle and great touring car. Not to take away from the vehicle and I'm rooting for Rivian to succeed. But I'll say I felt very limited by the charge network especially coming from Tesla's. I also managed to overheat the air suspension playing with settings and doing some light off-roading. It was locked in high mode and psuedo low range for 10 minutes while waiting for the pump to cool down before I could continue on my road trip.

The headlights actually sort of remind me of the FJ55 lights.

Let’s not forget our British cousin, the LR3, and its split tailgate.

We just logged in to fill out our pre delivery paperwork right before I logged on here coincidentally. Our delivery date was early 2024 but we got an email with a list of R1S from order cancelations that are about done being built and one matched our exact configuration so we signed up to take that one and they say 3-6 weeks now.

I can't tell from the picture but did you go with the street wheels and tires or the all terrain with the range penalty. The wife wasn't happy about the range loss of the 34" ATs but she refused to drive "soccer mom street tires" in her words. Note she's a cheer mom not a soccer mom so there must be a different social pecking order there lol.

Now I just need to decide if I want to trade in or keep her Mach-E for myself.

El cap gray
Black rims
AT tires

ocean interior

I wanted limestone. Wife hated it
I want to do matte xpel on the gray she says no
White looks good too
Blue is growing on me
Launch green looks good too.

Nice. We got the same wheels/tires. Glacier white exterior with the Forrest edge (green) and warm ash wood interior. I thought I would hate the green interior that she picked but on our demo drive they had several in green interior and ended up liking the look in person. She got the skid plates too for all the curbs she runs over.

Now I have tire size envy though with only 33s on my LC.

Early 60s land cruisers were just as robust and well built as current ones. Toyota just pays attention to the details.
