well tomorrow im going to tackle my front oil seal, timing and harmonic balancer plus a new oil pan gasket from felpro. going to test the oil pump too as i think it may have gone out

oooooooooooooook. tackled the main seal today. the oil pan gasket, and front main seal have not been removed in 14 years. the main seal leaked at some other point and the PO had decided to use RTV to fix it instead of actually fixing the problem the correct way  so got all that done, replaced the harmonic balancer and when i removed the oil pan, METAL PIECES! :censor: but thankfully it turned out to be pieces of plastic after cleaning them up from the rotted Felpro gasket for the oil pan that fell in. :whoops: so my frantc call to georg was probably an overreaction but ya thank you georg for your levelheaded reaction

after that i got her buttoned up for the night with the new felpro one piece gasket and front main seal. tomorrow its time to piece my car back together with both batteries, new belts, fan shroud, and that fun stuff. need synth new oil, a wix filter and coolant.

after that ill get around to replacing all my transmission cooler lines since a couple leak and ive got a clgo somewhrer casuing intermittenet overheating issues

little bit of flexing from the other day before the snow hit. had some fun and finally bottomed out my suspension and got on 3 wheels.

I probably wouldn't run straight synthetic in a motor with higher miles if it hasn't been running it up to this point. Defiantly get the higher mileage blend.

Here's what I run in mine. Don't know what the previous owners ran until I got it. My lower end and bearings looked great when I pulled the pan yesterday.

i run mobil one synth too and it has worked wonders. all new gaskets, no problems and no sludge buildup so far. i really am impressed with it except for the price :D the oil leak was there before i used synth and as with what reevesci has said, my pistons looked great and clean with a yellow tinge.

Ok fine lets get real here, how about a first gen. ZR1 engine i'm sure Georg could work on it.:D

super cool engine but it belongs in a sports car, just like an LS1 does......

haha it twas fun and ya had about 3/4 inch of room with the axle on the bump stops. :steer:

heading out to Hollister SVRA BLM land on saturday to hang out with Machinist and some friends with Rovers. should be really fun

ok, Holliseter Hills SVRA where the Tough Truck Challenge was held kicked my butt. in the process of wheeling on the "Frame Twister" i pulled a RobustBambi and deceided to rip the corner of my rear bumper outward on a rock, the same rock that tried to pull my skidplate and bent it in a similar fashion. also my rear pinion seal is leaking so i am ordering one from Marlin Crawler at the reccomendation of Machinist who just replaced his.

also leaking from the front main seal AGAIN and also burning oil above 70 MPH. burned through a quart in a half of oil in 100mies on the trip over trying to keep up with the other rigs.

my T-Case rear power output seal is leakin T-case oil so i need to fix that and figure out what i need.

i also hit a tree on the passengers side in the exact spot where the PO hit a tree on the drivers side, so if anyone has a pair of front fenders hit me up.

pics to come in this thread and probably Machinist's thread if he gets on here sometime soon

my brake Drums are also making funny noises and slipping so Gregnash, i call on you to help me with my drum rebuild! :)

sounds like a successful trip!

lol

haha i was just about to send you a PM to see if you had any fenders off a parts cruiser. so do you? lol and my motto is "if it aint broke, you didnt play hard enough!

the fender got me really irritated though

oh and i have a question, i have TBI and when i go down steep inclines in 1st gear/4wd the engine has a tendecay to starve of gas and die. the only thing i can think of is the TBI gasket replacement that i have yet to install. any ideas?

Stopped by Gorgs place today to snag some pinon seals and ended up with 2 brand new to me fenders and a bumper from a parts cruiser georg had on site. definitly a fair price from georg plus i got a huge bag of screws and hardware as replacements.
the only problem with the fenders is that they are orange/red so a respray is in order. my power steering decided to urinate on a gas station today so that needs to be replaced in the future. thanks again to georg and Valley Hybrids in stockton. its a great shop and georg is very accomodating even when i show up at odd times to sag parts.

on the drive home i lody 3 quarts of oil so was replacing the oil every stop, so that needs to be fixed soon. ovrall great day!

Lucky guy. I got a 5 grand estimate to replace anything that needs to be done to pretty much every original bit on everything important. Should probably take care of it soon though... Good times lay ahead for my bank account.

*faint* i dont need any ideas when the 350 goes out in the far future :grinpimp:

I just bought a Cadillac 500 to put in a '53 F-100 I'm building. After reading up on these engines, I'm almost tempted to stick one in an FJ. LOTS of low RPM torque and they get decent gas mileage with high gearing.

yikes! is that just parts or parts+labor? DIY it and it kills the cost, just invest in a FSM and a good set of tools, you will be good to go in no time

Damn!

Even if i had 5k thats burning in my pocket it really shouldn't take that much to fix what needs fixin in a 20+ year old cruiser, like walker said if you could do some of the work it would save you a ton of cash to put it towards other repairs or upgrade.buy a used FSM and start wrenching on it slowly.:D
