Hi

I have a Japanese import LC100 V8 (year 2000) out here in Botswana It seems to have come with a speed warning that starts at 100kmph which sounds a bit like a heart rate monitor, needless to say this is very annoying, I think it must be an after market addition because I have had jap imports before without the beep. It seems to be coming from behind the dash/under the steering wheel. Unfortunately I am not able to properly locate it as I am going 100kmph when ever it starts sounding.

Its been ok so far but I am taking part in the put foot rally this year and dont fancy sitting listening to a constant beep for 9,000km!

Has anyone had similar issues like this? I think I need to get in behind the dashboard and find a sensor thats on the speedo but am not sure, so was wondering if anyone has had the same issue? Does any one know of a guide to getting in behind the dash?

Thanks :)

See here for detailed instructions: http://www.dustbird.com/ih8mud/FSM/Body Mechanical.pdf
Starts at page BO-81, which is page 49 of the document.

Also see: http://www.dustbird.com/ih8mud/FSM/Body Electrical.pdf If you look at page BE-58 (page 58) there is a connector C, pin C-15 has the speed sensor signal as per page 61. Maybe they tied in to that wire?

A rally in Botswana? Wow, I wish I could join you. I love your country.

Were your other Japanese imports newer than the 100? The reason I'm asking is, maybe Toyota removed that speed associated sound on newer vehicles. In the Initial D cartoon, the AE86 made a warning sound when it got to a certain highspeed. I know it's a cartoon, but your thread reminded me of it.

Awesome thanks I will check those out and see if I can have a play with it.

The rally goes through SA, Namibia, Bots, Zambia, Malawi and finishes in Moz, so should be good fun, just not with a constant beep beep beep :)

No, my last was from 1996 and the 100 is year 2000. Im just hoping its some simple thing I can just take off / unplug!
Sorry not sure what a D cartoon is....:-0

Just did a quick search and it seems that many older Japanese vehicles have this feature. Not sure if it was law. This may have been a factory option, and could be integrated in the cluster.

Yes I read somewhere that the speed limit is 100kmph so that would explain why it sounds off then. There is a lot of Jap imports in Botswana but I cant really find anyone who has had this issue.

If it is in the cluster is that easier or harder to get rid of?

Thanks

Is the sound coming out of the factory speakers? If not, you can search where the speaker is and disconnect it without messing with the dashboard gauges.

You can also drive the entire race at 99 Km/h

That was my other thought as it does sound like the noise could be coming from somewhere by my knees when im driving so Im hoping it is some small speaker I can just disconnect, fingers crossed!

Im sure I would save a fair bit of petrol money driving at 99km/h but Im not sure thats going to happen :)
