how hard will it be to move the fuel lines when putting the passenger side in??

Should not be hard at all. The hardest part will be being careful to not snap off the bolts because they might be very rusty. I've been spraying them with PB blaster every now and then, hopefully that'll take the edge off and the bolts will come out cleanly. The kit comes with new spacers and bolts so the fuel lines will not sit flush against the rail, but be spaced out over the top of the U-bolt to keep them from being crushed.

Masscrusher- like above, I won't be puting the passenger side on until it warms up to at least 45 degrees. It's just too cold to be outside under a truck right now.

I do know a guy with a big garage that might be open to helping me out, but the garage isn't heated either.

the fuel lines......

are held on to the frame rail with a light bracket and bolts.i supply you with eight 1/2 inch spacers to pull the lines away from the rail.[ new longer bolts also are supplied] leave the fuel line loose untill your u-bolts are all mounted up. depending where you live, you may have to start by spraying rust penetrent or pb blaster on the bolts to get them to back off with out breaking.mine came right out.DOC will let us know how his come out.he's in the rust belt of IOWA. pre-treatment of those bolts is highly recomended if you have problems w/rust.you might want to check to see if they will back out, before ordering, now if they don't want to back out, i can probably fab a bracket to go over the fuel lines.

yup, got it...cheers. It looks like this is the way i want to go. Just have to get my pennies together. Will let you know this week.
ps...buy that kid some new sweat pants... ;)

No need to tell me. We just got hammered with 1' of snow on top of what was on the ground. In my area, the average this year is 100" (so far). I need to wait too for some other repairs, namely the power steering return line.

Perfect Cruiser weather, except for the salt on the road.

oh yeah....

the sweat pants have been upgraded. this kid burns holes in all his pants. always just one knee. our doctor says he's off the growth chart, supposed to be 6'8" when he's 18 yrs old

Hey, Jose-
Don't take this wrong, but did you have a tannish Heep YJ a few years back?
And di I give you a lot of chit about it, despite having a Heep myself?
Your name sounds familiar, and I used to be in YT when I lived in Newton.

Doc -
If you use your new rattle hammer with a 6-point socket on the rusty bolts after soaking repeatedly with PB blaster, they should come out. If you break one, get a Snap-On screw extractor. They're completely different than the amateur tapered ones, meaning they work. Think they're under $10 for the size that fits a 1/8" hole.

Rattle hammer? Never heard that name before- I like it!

One more good justification for the compresser!

Heep!?!?!?!! No, not me. Lee had a heep... still has, Chu have a heep. I always owned an FJ60. Which is tan, btw. Are you calling my Cruiser a heep???? :poke: kidding :D

And yes, I recall your name from the mailing list.

the brackets are only on one rail because I don't feel that I need an extra step on the drivers side.

So, Doc. Sounds like your wife NEVER gets to drive, eh?

She gets to drive the 80 full time.

I'm not sure I got the fair end of the stick on this deal since I bought both of them!

She does occasionally drive the 60, but not much- even less since she became preggy, it's just too 'bouncy' for her comfort.

Today's update:

Went to work on the passenger side rail this morning. Initial test fit showed the brackets for the step would need to be cut down to clear the lower rockers. This was expected. I have no good metal power tools (yet) and ended up resorting to a dremel with cut off wheels, and a hack saw. It took a while, but I got it done. Then I hit the cut areas with bed liner (am currently waiting for it to dry before I attempt a re-install ).

Got under the truck to take the brackets off of the passenger side rail. 19 years of weather had taken its toll. The bolts did not snap however. The rust had removed enough material from the bolt head that it was no longer a 14mm bolt. It was now closer to 13.5mm. The 14mm socket was too big, the 13 too small. So out came the pry bar. I gently worked my way around the lines prying on the brackets themselves until I had enough clearance to slip the U-bolts through. didn't take much, and the old brackets bent easily. I'll wrap the frame rail with metal ties after the install to keep the lines down again. I don't think they are necesary, but I'm being cautious.

So the 3 U-bolts are on, and the slider is drying (so is the step). I went to the hardware store and bought D- type snap retaining pins for easy removal of the step. Also picked up a 4x12" piece of adhesive rubber diamond plate tread material for the step. Should be nice.

Oh, and my air compressor arrived today so I get to play with that too. I should have bought a air grinder while at the store.

All in all it was a good Birthday weekend so far. (Birthday was yesterday). I got $100 in free parts from Yakima because they screwed up my order, bought a springfield sub-compact XD40 w/ 3 12rnd mags for the ported XD40, and got a free box of ammo from the dealer. Also got a CC holster for the Sub-compact, for when I'm ready to carry it.

Slider will be dry in 30 minutes, so expect prelim pictures before the evening.

Whew! It took a bit of work to get that passenger side on. Glad it's all buttoned up now.

The wifey is definately happier about getting in and out of the truck the way it sits now. It's amazing how many little things under the truck you had to account for Jim, glad it wasn't me doing the math. Everything fit amazingly well- and the only hiccup was those damn brackets. I managed to work around them though.

Now- for the testing! I'll have to go find a rock or something.

hey doc....

i just got back to work. does the location of the step work ok?it almost looks like i put it to far back  i like the rubber diamond plate stuff.
