Be honest, do you like the FJ Cruiser.......

I will not buy another one unless something happens to the one I have. I love it more than the day I got it. Lifted a little, nice stereo, and several others things and it just gets better. I dont care what anyone says, it looks badass. My infidel is one badass brutal looking thing.

Over the years i have owned 49 cars and trucks. I currently have an LR3, FJ60 and as of Thursday a 2007 FJ Cruiser (with 4 years left on a Toyota B-B warranty).

I traded in a F350 Diesel Lariat FX4 for this.
ya i knew about the blind spots and the stupid 2 1/2 doors and the windshield 1 mile from the driver. but i did not care. My brother has one love it and between him and i we have owned 5 Land Cruiser from BJ4x series to FJ60 series. Zero regrets.

So what do i think of it?

Fun to drive. great handling on road. Don't know about off road yet but will soon. TONS of aftermarket stuff. and well just a great rig. I love the utilitarian style of it. Cloth seats, simple dash, no frills no gimmicks.

I am very happy with this, and when my wife offered to give me back my LR3 i told her NO.

Boought my FJC in June '07, Nice solid vehicle, spent way too much in mods to get it to where I wanted it. Could not stand the hassle getting people in the back seat, rear storrage filled up fast what with the slant of the back seat and all.. Sold it and bought a "97 LX !! fully locked . it was fun to drive though..

I drive a 100 series right now...pretty boring vehicle.
Love the toyota reliability and wish I had something a little more fun and got better mileage...

What do you guys think?

It all depends on what you want to do with it. More than 2 passengers regularly, towing more than a small boat/trailer, re-think changing.

Otherwise, it can be a lot of fun, mileage won't be much better if at all...

well put. You really got to look at you're passenger comfort, mileage, what type of driving. Of course the FJ is not the best gas mileage you can get for what little requirements you're talking here. Of course I tend to hit the skinny pedal a lot :)

I'm 6'2" weigh 225lbs and I can fit in the backseat with no issues. It may be tight, but no different than any other smaller 4 door SUV. And anyone complaining about MPGs, you bought the wrong vehicle. You have a brick with 4-wheels, that's heavy, what did you expect? My tires, the rubber alone, weigh in at 67lbs each, and I still get 16-17mpg average with a 6MT.

I love them, in one color. Not a fan of the two-tone, but that's just me. My truck is amazing on the road, and even better off-road. Toyota could not have made a better modern day version of the Land Cruisers of yesteryear.

this is the reason why my fj is a gas hog :) of course she's not my daily driver...

I've had a FZJ80 and several 100 series and 4 runners. What I love about the FJC is how "basic" it is. No "NAV system", no leather, no extra electronic crap that can fail. I have the 2010, that has the upgraded engine, and frame. This is just one HD dependable vehicle, for a great price.

To be honest - No.

I fought tooth and nail all the haters who had never driven one or would ever consider a vehicle built in the last 10 years. It's the best we could have reasonably expected Toyota to build. We asked for a lot of stuff they knew didn't sell all that well and they gave us most of it.

The wife really liked it and we bought one.

After two years I don't like very much of it at all. It's a cave. It only has two windows that open. Making them 48 inches long doesn't make it better. It buffets like crazy unless you open both windows. The sills are too high. The windshield is too far away. The overhang makes it so you can't see the traffic lights unless you're 200 yards back from the stop line. We've cracked the w/s three times already. The doors are so huge you can't park in a normal parking spot without holding the door half closed. Then you have to do this stupid dance to try to hold that door while opening the useless half doors that swing all the way open by themselves. Then you're trapped.

My wife bought it for the dogs. The plastic back and big back door would be good for our big dogs. They hate it. No air, no windows and no traction. They LOVE my CM Tundra.

The windshield seems always filthy. We go through a gallon of wiper fluid a week. The oil filter location is retarded. The rear window size and lack of vent is way past retarded. Want to talk about the rear lights or the plastic bumperette things?

And mine doesn't have any inner fender cracking issues.

It does off road well and it does have all those things we asked for; short wheel base, short overhangs, great off road manners, old school styling (albeit "influenced" rather than real good looks)

All that being said the wife really does like it and she spends 12-15 hours a week in it. We've got almost 50,000 miles on it and it's never been to the dealer. (The Tundra needs to go in for the 4th time in 19,000 miles for its 3rd bumper.) The drive train is excellent. It gets pretty OK mileage for a brick.

If I had to do it again I'd get that all that in a 4Runner.

As for a great out of the box wheeler - I've owned and wheeled the wee out of an 80 series. The FJC is no 80 series.

Totally agreed. I had one for a month. A buddy had to have one after wrenching on my 60 so he traded in his lexas brought it over and left it while he went to Texas for the winter. I drove the hell out of it and all I can say is WOW Like a submarine on wheels. He came home drove it a month and sold it. seriously designed by a pencil pusher not a driver.

I like mine.
I lifted it and put bigger tires.
I grew up driving/owning trucks. I came from a Chevrolet family.
The FJ gets better gas mileage than a Z71, does not have the towing, but is more fun to drive. I have the manual transmission - I love having the manual - the suv style versus a pickup-bed is a give and take situation.
Visibility seems limited at times - just something I had to get used to.
All in all I am glad I made the switch to the FJ. I will not buy another Chevrolet/GMC.

I did not like them until I owned one and drove it for awhile. I can see where someone that doesn't have very good driving skills would have a problem owning this vehicle.

I agree.
I have stated this before but my FJ Cruiser has zero blind spots.
I was trained to use mirrors and be aware of my surroundings at all times, drive defensively.

I drive over the road rigs at work to commute between job sites, and I can see out of the FJ far better than them.

It is all about learning to drive correctly.
The blind spot thing cracks my ass every time I read it :D

I'm with you if you are a good driver you understand how to use your mirrors and quickly understand where your vehicle is on the road. If this was not true no one could ever drive a Semi. But like in everything else in life some people have skills and some don't.

Self-plagiarised from another thread:

I love mine. Originally purchased an '08 as a backup Cruiser for my FJ60. Three years later, the FJ60 has yet to have its Vortec conversion ironed out so we still use the FJC more than it. I've been slow to mod it, at least partly because I don't want to ruin it, but the FJC Forums help to make it difficult to leave it alone.

It drives nicely on and off the road (almost feels like a sports car compared to the 60), it looks cool (IMO), and it makes it to our destinations without protest.

My FJC is my 33rd vehicle (past cars include 3 TR3s, a 911, a CJ7, and various pickups). It's the only vehicle I've owned that, if stolen, I'd replace with the same thing. My FJC has 85,000 miles on it, and I like it more than teh day I bought it. Corny? Maybe. But I mean it.

Not corny at all. I've been doing the same thing with mine. Only I have over 155,000 miles on mine now.
