4 Tenn. basketball players facing gun charges

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl indefinitely suspended four Tennessee basketball players, including starting senior forward Tyler Smith, who were charged with gun possession and other counts after a Friday traffic stop.

The Knoxville Police Department said Smith, 23, junior point guard Melvin Goins, 22, junior center Brian Williams, 22, and sophomore guard Cameron Tatum, 21, were arrested during a traffic stop for speeding near Tennessee's campus.

SCarolina kicks junior forward Holmes off team

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -South Carolina coach Darrin Horn has dismissed forward Mike Holmes from the Gamecocks for repeatedly violating team rules.

A release from the school on Friday said Holmes did not meet Horn's expectations both on and off the court, but didn't specify what the junior did to get kicked off the team.

Holmes hasn't played since Nov. 27 after he broke a bone near his left eye at home.

Holmes was averaging 11 points and 4.8 rebounds a game this season, after scoring 10.8 points and a team-best 7.7 rebounds in 2008-09.

Horn says he will help Holmes continue his education and basketball career.

Holmes is the second starter the Gamecocks have lost this season. Senior Dominique Archie suffered a season-ending knee injury on Nov. 22.

21st ranked team and they scored 12 points in the first half at home. tisk, tisk.

It wasn't at home it was at Duke and I'm pretty sure we couldn't have throw a ball in the ocean during the first half. That was a terrible performance they have got to stop trying to shoot 3's to get Booker open and start giving it to Booker to get open 3's. They are working backwards at times and its killing us. But we will rebound OP will use it as a learning experience and make them better for it. All the young guys seemed a little awe struck too, really made some dumb plays and fouls. We are substantially more athletic then Duke but it didn't look like it last night except during that short run to open the second half.

Weber wipe out!!!! No wait, CoC beat down!!!! Ahhhhhhh, haaaaaaaaaa................... :flipoff2:

Much rather lose to Duke than CofC they didn't even win their conference last yr, and I don't even know what conference that is its so small.

Southern Conference.

Heels allowed almost as many points as CofC scored against powerhouse Charleston Southern.

UNC should have been able to not "show up" and still beat CofC.

A perfect example of why I refuse to bet on College basketball. WAY to unpredictable.

Never bet against good coaching in college bball, Cremins has more ACC Championships then Roy Williams and more ACC coach of the year awards then Roy Williams, and if Williams hadn't come to UNC he'd have the same number of National Championships.

I'll probably do a little carbo loading myself, trying to end a 10 game losing streak vs UNC tonight. Wish we had it at your place this yr this would have been the best chance to do it there since you guys are down.

Too bad we couldn't shoot like that in the first half against Dook, then we'd have TWO purty new notches on the gun butt.

NC looked as bad against us as we did last week at Cameron, and we looked as good as the rat boyz did then. But I'll venture to say our poor shooting was mostly stage fright and theirs was from a smothering D.

Only thing more I could have hoped for was the OPP hollering "Miss it" every time the 'holes took a foul shot. Come to think of it I only saw a couple, they were probably saving it for a critical time-which never came.

While I'm here: Did anybody notice how good BC looked against Dook? The BC that we punked like they were little girls? OP and the boys are looking much better now for the long haul than I was thinking last week.

UNC barely hanging on in the rankings right now, most loses of any ranked team really says something about the media. Big time ACC showdown tonight between Clemson and GT.

Wish I would have had those seats, love ya Marshall, mean it... :flipoff2:

LOWF really punked the 'holes eh? First three loss streak for Williams.
Thought that might bring Andy out of hiding.
