Quick question - I am in the process of performing some body wok, sanding the body, etc... The truck is currently stored in a unheated garage. My plan is to complete all the body work before I prime/Rustbullet. I haven't noticed any rust on the bare metal yet... Can I keep the body stripped down until I get it all primed without worrying about rust forming? If not what steps should be taken?
Thanks,
Chris

Make sure there is no moisture content in your storage area. Flash rust can attack bare metal. If you are that worried, prime everything in a conventional primer. When ready, just sand it off and start from scratch.

I am not sure it there is not moisture in the garage or not. It is raining today so I will check it out when I get home. If needed I will just shoot with some auto rustoleum primer until I am ready to prime the entire truck and block sand.
Thanks

I had mine unprotected in my garage for 2 years and the only surface rust was from where I touched it with sweaty hands or my dog took a leak on it. Otherwise no problems.

If possible put a dehumidifier in there. that would help ALOT.

Should be OK, hit any bare metal with a DA and 180 grit paper before you prime. I would use a epoxy primer as a base but as long as the metal is clean you'll be OK. If it is real humid get some Picklex 20, spray on, wipe off, expensive but works awesome. If you are using a urethane topcoat i would def use the epoxy.

Does epoxy primer come in spray can form, or can it only be applied with a spray gun and compressor? Is epoxy primer used by auto body/restoration shops?

My guy used a dupont acrylic primer. Really tuff schitt.

Epoxy primer is a 2 part primer, consisting of a primer and a hardener. It should be sprayed on for best results. Some people use it to seal the metal before any body work and some use it after. I usually strip to bare metal by sanding or sandblasting, and seal the bare metal with epoxy. If you have any bare metal that will be exposed for a while, the Picklex 20 is great stuff. www.picklex20.com/

Are you doing spot repair of stripping the whole tub?

Thanks for the info on the epoxy primer. I am removing the surface rust, having the rear qtrs. replaced, and sanding the entire body so its uniform. After thats all done, I will either prime myself or have it primed and painted by a third party.

Here's another product that will protect bare metal.
www.chemicar.com it' called Rust Control Clear
