Baked on brake dust

No need to sand them. Scuff them really well with a scotch brite pad, clean with acetone or isopropyl alcohol and paint with wheel paint.


If yours is truly brake dust, a product called Iron-X will dissolve it. It's expensive though and you need to remove the wheels because that stuff will react with any iron it gets sprayed on.

Its not brake dust, I was able to remove what dust there was but there is still the "blackend" wheel look over some areas. Do I need to tape off the brakes 100% or if some paint gets on them will they be fine?
 
Most people remove the wheel from the vehicle. To keep the paint from getting on the tires, use note cards.
