I have a cruiser with a mini disc conversion, I was rebuilding the front end and I can't get the toe out in enough, the steering arms on the knuckles are on right and the spacing to the wheels looks the same on both sides but I have the tie rod adjusted to the ends of the threads and there seems to be about an inch differen't front to back with 35 inch tires, this truck had a severe toe out problem before it wore out new tires in about 200 miles, any suggestions? Should I trim the ends of the tierod and have them threaded farther in? I have done conversions with fj60 parts and no problem at all. Thanks, Larry

what kind of power steering are you using? stock?fj60?saginaw?...

is this for a sprung over axle vehicle? if yes, where are the steering arms from?

i'd get .250 wall tubing and have it threaded the right length but that might be the difficult option, although when a SOA is done the tie rod usually doesn't need adjust ed because it generally doesn't make the distance inbetween the two greater unless you have a problem with your knuckles or steering arms

Dont take any offense to this, but did you swap the steering arms? Are they angled towards the tires (correct) or towards the center of the truck(incorrect) ?

This is stock manual steering with a 4 inch spring under lift, and the arms are the stock mini arms pointing toward the tires. Larry

Are you using for tie rod ? the mini's had wider track I think so what you are sayin seems right if you are using the mini tie rod. Yes it needs to be shorter , call Luke at 4x4labs , next day service and you will love the beef. Be sure to tell him you got mini arms not drum or 1 ton.

I might try that, I'm using a 40 tie rod I got from cruiser outfitters the original was bent slightly, I really only need a quarter inch more and I think it would transilate to the 1 inch I'm seeing at the outside of the 35's, thanks again, Larry

The stock tie rods do have a little extra threads on the insides... you might be able to cut 1/4" off of each side to shorten it up a bit...

Kurt's idea is good. I had to shorten my 40 tie rod with 79 mini arms/parts about 1" IIRC. I did it in the middle with a sleeve and plenty of full-penetration welds.

When I had this problem I didn't get any real answers as to why. This put the TRE threads at about 3/4 engagement. See
