Bad blowby on my 93 hdj81. Would anyone know any mechanics that can fix this in socal. Called almost every shop. At this point should i do it myself or swap it with a crate motor. I have no idea how to rebuild an engine.

i just tested it by placing oil cap on top of where it goes without screwing down. It also loses a lot of power and smells as if something is burning with white smoke coming out the exhaust. It also is leaking oil somewhere. All happened when i was moving from Louisiana to california. All temperatures seemed normal by my gauges, but i was going up-hill towing a motorcycle driving for 4hrsI am not intimately familiar with the Toyota diesels, but I know a few things about diesels in general.
How are you determining blowby?
Does it use(burn) a lot of oil?
If you have blowby out the engine breather, but oil is not being burned that can points to a blown headgasket, not bad rings.
OP please do a cold and warm compression test and post results along with numbered spark plug pictures..
No. 1HDT's have a boost compensated fuel pump- less boost pressure = corresponding reduction in fuel rateIf it was a boost leak you would have black smoke.
Aneroid valve can go bad..No. 1HDT's have a boost compensated fuel pump- less boost pressure = corresponding reduction in fuel rate
whatever you reckon...Aneroid valve can go bad..
Anyway, seems Ike a leaking injector or bad compression in one or more cylinders
You started with wise comments. I miss read. Calm down bro. You don’t have to feel insulted. Jeez.whatever you reckon...

White smoke only when warmed up. Have not pressure tested anything yet. No engine oil is seeping and fuel filter was just changed. So it a diesel. Ok well, no biggy.
Does it hard start when cold?
When you drive the engine cold does it have blue smoke?
You said white smoke, which can be a leaking injector. Does that happen as soon as it starts or after it’s warmed up?
If it was a boost leak you would have black smoke.
Does the engine coolant look nice and clean or sludgy?
Have you tried a coolant compression gas leak tester? The one with fluid changes changing color?
Have you pressure tested the cooling system?
Does the engine seep fuel in the suction fuel supply lines when engine is off?
When was the last time you changed fuel filters?
I appreciate it. I’m really no trained mechanic. I can fix stuff by watching youtube but im dumb when it comes to diagnosing. I appreciate your help and will keep updating this forum as i tackle this problem. Sadly there are no mechanics that will touch this in southern californiaEasy way to find out.
Compression test the engine.
White smoke always makes me suspect air is getting sucked into the fuel system.
Time and time again this crops up in the diesel tech section with various questions about smoke, idle lack of power, stumble etc etc.
So often it is simply down to old rubber hoses, primer pump diaphragm failure, or someone has disturbed hose connections, or replaced a fuel filter.
Sure, there's other causes of white smoke, but it's super duper easy to eliminate any of this being the case using clear hose temporarily leading into the fuel pump. Cost next to nothing, and takes 10 minutes, vs spending thousands.
Like another member said that a fuel filter sucking air might also cause the problem. Check that too.I appreciate it. I’m really no trained mechanic. Doesn't seem like you have enough experience, Lol.whatever you reckon...
