ahha its all fixed awesome guys! My buddy adjusted my idle and we are setting my timing tonight after work! It sounds great! Now to replace the oil pan and we will be 100% good to go!

I'll post a pick tonight

I'm buying him lunch and dinner today btw :)

weather,

BTW, there looks to be a t-fitting on your intake manifold hooked to nothing, in your pic just below the fuel inlet on the carb. That is where the PCV valve should hook up. The arrow on the valve should point to manifold. The hose with the breather should go from the air filter to the valve cover.

pls if you already fixed it u will need to plug that empty fitty.

yep its been plugged... we got a new valve to fit another spot for the brake booster so we are all good now. thanks man !

I'll take a pic tonight so other can see if anyone else runs into this problem

oil pan

Good to hear:clap::clap: It's a nice feeling to hear a proper running engine isnt it?

Doing an oil pan?

I just did a new gasket and you may not need any tips but here's a couple things that might help just in case:

The oil pans can be difficult to remove ---carefully tap in a putty knife or wood chisel, etc from the side and it will work loose-- might give it a whack with a rubber mallet too

The thread holes come up through the block so you can shoot pen oil down into them. Be gentle with the bolts.

Gaskets might be advertised as 4 piece or one piece---I ordered a one piece after ripping the 4 piece---it was just the 4 piece glued together :lol:

clean surfaces really well

Here's a trick I had been taught in my teens and forgot, POSER reminded me---- and the reason I tore my 1st new gasket.

The holes will not line up perfectly so tie them in place with string
or yarn use a couple long bolts just to hang the pan in place. I tore the corner of my gasket trying to line up the bolt hole and it leaked. start the bolts and cut and pull the string out

Make sure the gasket goes into the journals properly all the way round at the front and back end as you tighten up . I put a little sealant in the journals too

I put in the front and rear bolts first getting the round part of the gasket into the journals, then the rest

let my mistake be your success!

Man, we wire brushed it and everything both sides were spick and span. We got the gasket lined up perfectly. The rear was having trouble lining up but the front was fine. I still got a leak! damn! I should have read your post before. My friend did it the same way on mine as he did on his friends but mine failed. Spent 4 solid hours on it and still a failure. check your messages I sent you one.

sorry to hear you had trouble with it---yeah the first gasket made me a little:bang::bang:. The second was okay so just keep your cool

if your leak is in a corner you may have a gap where the round part meets the side part of the gasket if you didn't tear it you should be able to drop it down and add some sealant

do you have the so-called one piece gasket or the 4 piece?

if there is a piece of gasket sticking outside the pan you may have the bolt on the inside of the gasket forcing it out just loosen enough bolts to gently push it in and line up the bolt hole or the opposite could happen and you forced the gasket inside the pan

just be careful not to tear it trying to line up the hole ---a tapered drift may help line it up better than the bolt
