I got Guido on speed dial and will dispatch him shortly

Ash, so it is just the three of us? I thought Pappy was also confirmed.
I want to go ,but cannot commit until last minute as I have some "honeyDo's" that I have to respect near those travel dates. I would bring my GMC Canyon as the GX is not ready to go off road, until I get new set of off road tires, and have to wait on lift ,to put 33's on, which is back ordered. I have camped out of my Canyon, and would work well for this trip. easy to pack up essentials, quickly.
Soooooo, I am a maybe ,until I am not. Is that okay with this tough to please group?:steer:. LOL.

I'll call off Guido....

Sarai and I will be there. I'm not sure what Thuraday the 18th looks like for me at work, what with the layoffs and me being handed projects left and right. What time do you plan to take off?

What are anyone's thoughts on using dry ice in a cooler over the weekend for the trail ride?

We don't have a fancy cooler, just a portable IGLOO that fits right behind the driver seat.

Any stories to share? I hate dealing with water ice.

I'm still a maybe, but I'm becoming less optimistic that I can miss work.

dude, COME ON now, where are your priorities? You're a big kahuna in your job, make a minion do your work or something. Priorities man, priorities.

I might have to dispatch Guido

I have some experience using dry ice. The key,..... use the best cooler possible, then think layers.

Cover the bottom of the cooler with a layer of dry ice. Keep the dry ice in its bag and even keep it wrapped in the newspaper. Use gloves when handling. Then take a few -2 Celsius blue freezer ice blocks and cover the dry ice. Place all items you want frozen on top of the blue blocks. The remaining items on top of the frozen goods will remain refrigerated. Use cardboard to minimize settling of goods you do not want frozen.

With a higher end igloo from Walmart, I had a small bag of regular ice left over after 3 days on the trail. That same amount of ice was water after day 2 when using a cheaper "dollar store" cooler. Creating a barrier of insulation between the interior bottom of the cooler and dry ice can help with a cheaper cooler. The objective is to force the energy into the blue block verses transfer it to the ground where the cooler sits. Most Albertsons carry dry ice. So the ability to replenish on trips like this one, where you are often near developed towns, can be an option..

Let me know how things work for you guys.

Only those that join us around the camp fire get to hear the juicy stories.

I have one of those steel Coleman cooler if Aaron needs one.
Benzfanatical roped me into it, let's see how stock-ish fairs!

Is this the brother of BenzFreakAzoid?

I’m glad I posted that. Now it looks like our schedule is getting pushed back and I think I’ll be able to go. Not 100% yet, but looking good.

What are the outer cubic dimensions? The IGLOO we have is inexpensive with a small air gap (although I understand most coolers are little more than an air gap).

Thanks for the tips Larry. I wouldn't call this cooler "high end" but it's not junk either. I've thought about spraying the interior with foam like some YouTubers have done. We have BlueIce freezepaks and will give it a try.

Tentative yes. Got a lot of work to do on the truck first.

Well lookie who it is! Dude, you got four days :)
Gotta put my interior back together, pull a spare alternator from my parts truck (mine is making bad sounds), and finish my cb radio install. No problem if the parts arrive on time!
