Planning meeting this weekend for AZ Rocks, announcement says its planned to be held March 27-29 in Table Mesa:eek:? I know I've missed this event in yrs past, but what happend to FJ?

They switched it up... That's their call to make. Plenty of great wheeling out there for all types too.

It was quite a process to move the location...there was lots of discussion, polls, etc. prior to Mark's decison. I haven't been on many trails in TM, and think it would be a good change. A lot farther drive though...

How's the camping in Table Mesa? Personally I'm looking forward to the change in venue.

There are no formal campsites, but plenty of locations for "dispersed" camping. Show up a little early and drive around, you won't end up homeless...

Thanks for the interest. I'm a bit behind getting it put together this year, but I believe everything is well enough along to post. Myself and a handful of dedicated wheelers have spent many weekends scouting trails and I can honestly say everyone will be satisfied with the trails we're offering.

I've purposely limited the trail selection to easy and medium trails. Everybody knows Table Mesa has extreme trails, and we have enough forum regulars on 'tons' and in buggys that will be leading those. The leaders will determine those trails by the rigs that show up.

Most of the info is in the web link below, but I'll copy some additional info from our forum that might be helpful:

The Table Mesa area is off of Interstate 17 between New River and Black Canyon. Those that choose to camp can follow the directions / GPS coordinates in the link. The road is 2WD and motorhome accessible. No reservation or permit is required for dispersed camping on BLM land. Again this year we’ll keep it pretty basic. If you want to come and wheel with us, we’ll ask you to sign a waiver, and ask you to put a sticker on your rig to show the waiver was signed. We also ask that you haul out any and all trash you create. Clean your campsite and the trails you run! Make sure any fire pits are out before leaving your camp.

You can line up for the trails runs following the directions / GPS coordinates in the link. Be at the site before 8:30am. The runs will be organized with signs and staggered leave times to avoid the cluster. The signs will show the trail, what time it leaves, and what CB channel to use. Once lined up for your run, an inspection will be made to verify that the waiver was signed and you have the necessary equipment for the trail you want to run. Runs will be limited to max 10 vehicles including leader and gunner. Make sure you get a window sticker when you sign a liability waiver.
In general, this will outline the equipment needed:

No pre-registration, signups, or fees are required. This is a free get together.

Drinking on Trails - Please review our policy here:
http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...ad.php?t=99989

In short, this behavior will not be tolerated. We all will be enforcing a ZERO TOLERANCE Policy regarding drinking on the trails. NO EXCEPTIONS! The extreme trails are outside of our event and may include drinking, just so you know.

I don't think we're done with FJ, but it is posing a challenge for TTORA. STL group permits and dust concerns are tough for us. We're not allowed to charge any membership dues. Most large events have moved to private land. The future will be interesting :frown:

Howdy! Not that the area is better or worse, but it is interesting that the ASA4WDC has switched back to Florence Junction for 2009. A few years ago they moved the Jamboree up to Table Mesa for pretty much the same reasons you mention. After 20+ years at FJ, the Table Mesa area just didn't seem to work out as well, but I don't know the specifics. Good Luck. John

Working? Congrats Tim!

The drive to the trails is depressing, but the trails are as clean or better than FJ.

So now that we are in March and it's getting closer how many are going to go out and what are peoples plans??

I also heard that this area is somewhat it the middle of the Mexican drug traffic and is pretty dangerous...I am sure I got some miss info but before I brought the kids out I thought I would ask around a bit and make sure it was safe.

The RC crawlers PARC have a comp out there and here is the post I was talking about in the last post

"While I've not been to this crawlin site, I hear it's awsome and am looking forward to it, but like I said before, I know the Table Mesa Road area quite well as I've been shooting in there for more than 12 years with a few SWAT and Army friends of mine. As a result, I get a lot of deep info about what goes on in that slice of AZ, and naturally I approach that area with a certain understanding and caution.

I know that where we are going is only about a mile from the interstate and there is a lot of family ORVing in the area, so it's not really bad there. A mile further in on Table Mesa Road, and it gets dodgy with reckless shooters mostly, cross the river to the north and there's some serious danger in those hills. The whole area, a couple miles from the interstate out towards the lake, is a corridor for the Mexican drug cartels whose war includes control of that smuggling route, but all that only goes on very late at night. Get the idea...? I've seen most of it first hand.

I was there a month ago, will go shooting again with that group of freinds, and will go crawling there with this group of friends, but I know what to expect and where to expect it and I prepare accordingly. All I ask is that you don't poo-poo me like I don't know what I'm talking about.....thanks.

Howdy! I don't really see that are being any more dangerous than anywhere else in the state. That area is very heavily prospected for gold, so there is a lot of "non-wheeler" traffic. The Gold Prospectors Assos. of America has over 80 claims all around there. There are literally hundreds of other claims. Considering how rough and slow that terrain is, I would bet that the vast majority of smuggling traffic is on asphalt. John
