Looking at RCV axles and LongFields for my 60. Wondering who has experience with either or both?
Putting ARB in the front, running 34" Toyo MT's.

I have RCV ultimate splines in my 87 4runner, runner an E locker on it as well. its been great, it gets beat up everytime out and i havent had any issues. I wouldnt hesitate to run them in my 62 if I was building it for crawling.

Longfield means two different things depending on who you ask.

Before Bobby Long passed away his axles were manufactured by RCV. These are the “original Longfields” you’ll hear some guys who have been wheeling for awhile refer to.
After he passed the rights to his brand were purchased by Trail Gear and production was moved to China. And then RCV began selling Land Cruiser/Toyota axles to the public.

Whether the China Fields are any good or not I have no idea, I haven’t ran them or know anyone who has. They are 30 spline so I’d imagine they’d have to be better then stock though unless the material is pure garbage which I doubt, Trail gears products are usually pretty good in the last few years quality despite some questionable past history

I just checked prices on both websites...the RCV set of front axles is only about $100 more than the Trail Gear. I would go with the RCV set if I could do it over.

Good info to know Matt. Thanks

RCVs are a must if you are going to run a front locker IMO. Ive had them in my old firstgen 4runner as well. The OG bobby longs when i owned Lee Majors (fj40). and now my 60 series with an 80 front axle. You get really good piece of mind turning while you have your front axle locked, and as an added benefit, most oem axle shafts have the worn in groove where the axle seal goes, so you get to start fresh.... and youll have a nice spare set of axles laying around if you ever have any issues. Win win.

I would pay the extra $100 for the RCV over trail gear, but I dont ever spend the extra for the 300m RCVs. While you are looking at the trail gear stuff Ive had good luck with their rubber wiper seal upgrade compared to the stock felts.

Its also a really good time to do the knuckle ball and steering stop gussets. Youll already have it all apart lol
