Wow. If the 24 fits that nicely?
...seems like the 45 won't need to stick down nearly as far as I thought. Hmmm...
Sorry, that is the 16 gallon Baby tank

@Markuson Can't seem to see the photos that were on the site a year ago but as I recall the 45 fit very well with no loss of clearance. But Wow...that would be a lot of weight though. 1 gallon of gas =6.3 lbs x 45 = 283.5. But it would put us up to a 1200 mile range or better on road, and off road in 4 Lo would still be unreal.

I'm really psyched about these. Just the addition of a 24 gallon tank gives us a hell of a range.

Is there a drain? With occasional usage in many instances and ethanol laced fuel it seems prudent to be able to purge occasionally based on usage patterns.

It was a fun morning at Valley Hybrids. I had first row seats to the Georg and Dominic magic show featuring steel, sparks, and a hammer. If you're not familiar with the shop, they've seen virtually everything when it comes to LCs... as you can see from the video below. I've seen everything from buggies built on 40 platforms, to 70-series expedition rigs, to, well, mall crawlers like the beautiful 200 below. The crazy thing is that there are different trucks in there each time I'm there and shop is always packed to the brim.

I'll leave the official R&D comments up to Georg and Ward, but I'd say things are looking good on the fitment side. I'm not going to post any photos of the tank on the truck but here are a couple action photos from today.

Definitely a lot of weight, but you could just keep it partially filled until heading to serious boonies like Alaska or Baja...or just going completely off the grid for a week or more.

Also a nice back-up in the dead of winter. I've had to stop for the night in literal blizzards where it's also nice to be able to run the heater if you're stuck sleeping in the truck over night, or multiple nights.

On the other hand... It's tough to help a buddy who needs fuel if ALL your extra fuel is in your tank(s). Maybe the 24 gallon...plus jerry cans for the super long hauls. That way you've got fuel in cans that *anyone* can use, plus your 50 gallon internal total (26+24). That's a ton.

Yup...I've been thinking the same and may go for a 45. Like you say....we don't have to fill it till we need it so the weight is not a big deal really. You get stuck somewhere you can idle and stay warm for a month. :) AS for giving gas to someone in need.....I've siphoned gas out of a lot of vehicle tanks for various reasons. Now days there are simple siphon tubes that you don't have to use your mouth with to get the siphon started. I grew up getting a mouthful of gas occasionally if I didn't time it right. I'm sure others are familiar with that experience too.
But yeah the idea of a 45 is looking good to me too.

I'm torn between the 15 and 45 myself. The middle-of-the-road 24 gallon sounds good on paper but I expect there will be some real tradeoffs if the intent is to keep the spare tire underneath the truck. I think it'd be a good fit for folks who don't want a rear bumper and stick to pavement or trails that wouldn't risk damaging the spare.

With a 45 gallon 2nd, I would consider a 2nd spare mount on my left swing-out.
Would be the perfect Alaska setup for the Haul Road and beyond, where random dirt roads head off in weird directions, and no fuel for several hundred miles not including detours/camping etc. on a route where you definitely want a 2nd spare.

Clearance is really my only reservation to not going for a 45. My exhaust resonator is hammered to piss from Moab rock crawling. If a 45 hangs around that low, it'll get smashed. Mind you, this is just for what I use my rig for. If you're just trail riding, you should be fine. But since I enjoy doing silly s*** in Moab, I don't know if it would work for me, personally.

Now with that said, if it was a split tank with the water at the bottom and the fuel at the top. That would be interesting... 22.5 fuel/22.5 water would be intriguing.

Same here. Clearance will decide for me.

Interesting idea about a split tank...

If I read and understand correctly, the cost is the same for any of the 3 tanks. Each one comes with its own set of pros and cons. I like that the cost is equal across the three platforms as the deciding factor ends up being simply about how you use your LC. I don’t even have an LC (yet) and am thinking of these tanks! Hahahahaha!! I’d Probably go with the 24 or 45 gallon despite my plans to have bumpers with swing outs on my phantom LC...I need orders ASAP!

I wish they hadn't changed the LRA site. The 45 gallon one I could almost swear had good clearance....and the 24 was way high and tight. They had great photos on the site before. The tanks are made stronger then our stock tanks also so they say.
I could be remembering wrong since the 24 gallon one was originally in my sites and seemed like it would be plenty. I'm gonna e mail LRA and ask for photos or at least voice our question.
I have the same concerns. I am about to put on a very high clearance rear bumper too (either like yours from Jason or some others available.
I want to be able to carry two spares and swing out from the center.
After I remove my second row seat and rid myself of that weight it will be awesome. I ordered aluminum skids from Budbuilt trying to keep my rigs weight down. In fact everything I am buying I am trying to keep my rig light. I like to do crazy s**t too so the lighter the better.

I'm also looking into running two spares on a custom TT bumper.

This LRA tank will really be a game changer. No need for cans and allows an extra spare on a long expedition (of which I have a few planned/fantasized :) Also lets us keep from using the roof for really heavy items (jerry cans or another spare) if doing a long trip.

First duel tire bumper I saw was from 4x4 labs and on this 80 that was driven all over South America.
4BTZJ - 1995 Diesel 80

I talked to 4x4 labs yesterday and they would be wiling to do one for a 200 series if I left it with them. Then I saw @TonyP's that TT made and was also impressed and exchanged messages with Jason.

So I'm diggin on this gas tank situation and all that Ward and his guys are doing.

SATURDAY UPDATE / BRAIN DUMP

I'm thinking that's the 16 gallon tank.
Yes, @TonyP, that is the 16 gallon tank - the 24 gallon version is not in production yet. We got input early in this process / thread that y'all wanted something in the middle between 45 and 16. Based upon that, we asked LRA to provide the "Mama Tank" and they agreed.

Is there a drain? With occasional usage in many instances and ethanol laced fuel it seems prudent to be able to purge occasionally based on usage patterns.
No drain. Is that something people feel strongly about? If so, we can ask, but likely at a cost. Please let me know.

I would be interested in purchasing a tank from @duggy in the future. Mostly likely the 16 gallon.
@duggy is a friend and an installing shop partner. We are working to plan order flow and logistics to ship to his shop in bulk (more tanks per pallet through coordination) to drive down shipping cost. Duc has indicated he might even facilitate delivery for our purchasers that do not install at his shop. A good man, right there.

LRA has considered split tanks for fuel/water but they have seen and repaired competitors' products and have concluded that this configuration is not something they want to offer. Not a good design.

They can provide stainless steel versions of some models for potable water. Please email us at info@cruiserbrothers.com if you have a specific need or request.

If I read and understand correctly, the cost is the same for any of the 3 tanks.
The folks at LRA are awesome to work with - not just their technical/business expertise but also in understanding people and what they need/want and how they want it. Level pricing across the three options just make sense and helps customers make decisions on function vs. cost.

It is hard to build and manage a website supporting global distribution of a wide range of products. I am sure they will appreciate your feedback. As mentioned above, the 24 gallon model does not exist yet on their site. Current listings below reflect 45 and 16 gallon options. The 24 gallon model has not been offered. The photo you recall was likely the 16.

As distributor here, Cruiser Brothers is working hard to provide US/Canada spec products that are more functional, easier to install and easier to access. Once we nail down the new product details, we will expand our US website (www.cruiserbrothers.com) to provide more complete product details (in gallons), photos, videos, shipping information, inventory data/delivery timeframes, installation instructions and pricing. We are collecting photos, technical drawings, etc. from LRA and continue to expand that library.

Concerns, questions, etc. about fitment, installation, clearance, angle of departure, etc. are all understandable and amongst our priorities - to be addressed as we bring the new / enhanced products on line. One example for the 200 Series aux tanks - the large, medium and small (Poppa, Momma, Baby) tanks will see their capacities reduced due to the changes needed to accommodate the charcoal filter in our rigs. We could lose a gallon or two for each model. We will not know until we have production units in service for each version.

If you want something (like clearance photos for the 45 or 16 tanks) let us know and we will do our best to get them for you. Or you can email LRA, but don't be surprised or offended if they refer you back to Cruiser Brothers - at least for coordination and efficiency - to reduce duplicative effort and ensure all stakeholders get what they need and want. LRA and CB are both small firms doing big things with the help of our customers, partners and friends. This is a team sport.

Thanks!

Yeah Ward I would love to see a photo of a 170 liter auxiliary tank so we can see how far it hangs down...or info on clearance. Whatever you can provide. Seems a lot of us are starting to consider the larger 45 gal/170 . Thanks a lot.

Jim

I’d also like to see clearance photos of the 45 gallon. Using the dimensions from the LRA website and the width of my spare, I’d expect the 45 gallon to provide an inch or two of additional clearance compared to the stock spare.

In order of most clearance to least, I’d bet you’d see the options stack up like this.

No spare, no tank
No spare, 15 gal tank
No spare, 24 gal tank
No spare, 45 gal tank
Spare, no tank = Spare, 15 gal tank
Spare, 24 gal tank

Just a guess...
