Found him and the thread... https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/95328-100_series-aux-tank-install.html

His name is Scott, may want to PM him.

And here is the website for the west coast guys... Specter Off-Road, Inc. Land Cruiser Parts and Accessories

It looks like Scott (mobi-arc) ended up getting the wrong part from Specter Off-Road. He got a 80-series dual filler neck which turned out to be a PITA to install in the 100.

Someone else mentioned in the thread that they have had issues with Specter like that as well.

I did spend quite a bit of time trying to find a 100 series dual filler neck on their website, but no luck. All they have are 80-series. With that, and the unfortunate cases of shipping wrong parts, it looks like Dave at Japan4x4 is the way to go.

I will let you know if I get some photos of the parts. I am pretty sure I am going to go this route...FR tank with OEM dual filler neck modifed to accept hose from fuel pump on the FR tank, which will be controlled by the OEM sub-tank switch up front.

I don't know how many guys are running either OEM sub-tanks or long range tanks, but it would seem like it should be a popular upgrade with how many people are buying rear bumpers and throwing their spare tires up there.

I wonder if there would be a market in bringing five to ten of these dual filler necks?

I was interested in getting either Type A or Type B OEM filler necks if they were compatible with CA nozzles. It seems the latest nozzles are either shorter than years prior or the flexible part is more rigid as Spresso said.

Videre, aren't all the pumps in Oregon full service? As in, you can't pump yourself? This would be a PIA to need to instruct the attendant on how to pump gas. And I'm sure they won't appreciate it either. The plunger type dual filler would be easiest to explain but I think those are for the 80 (maybe the early 105's?).

I would also look into The Long Ranger tanks. They are known to be good quality, use the OEM sub tank fuel level sender (FR doesn't have any) and I am told they have a baffled "cup" at the pick-up point. They also seem to have the best clearance on the larger aux tanks. I have a Long Range Automotive tank and my one only issue is towards the lowest 1/4 tank, if I am transferring fuel, and I hit an incline or accelerate hard, it will suck air.

Check with Long Ranger as well, their "export" set-up might even include an OEM dual filler neck.

I have this switch and I think it is good as it simplifies installation. Fuel level, transfer button, auto-dimming all in a small package. But if using the FR tank, you would need to add a sender.

hoser, thanks for the input. Yeah, all pumps here are full service. It could definitely be a problem fueling up as traveling about. When I am local, I have a friend that I always get my gas through, so that wouldn't be a problem. I am mostly planning for international travel, so I think it may be less of an issue.

I really like the Long Ranger tanks. I actually wanted to go with them first, but the overall difficulty of trying to get the tank here became a major obstacle. I haven't read up on how you did your install in quite some time, so forgive me if I forgot how you got your tank. It came down to the fact that the FR tanks are here and available and, when coupled with a stock tank, have a bit more capacity than the Long Ranger.

If you have any thoughts or contacts on getting a tank here easily, I would definitely put them back on the short list.

Oh, I did look again on their website. It looks like the Long Ranger comes with the fuel pump and sender, but no dual filler neck. That is a nice switch / gauge as well. Thanks for sharing that.

spressomon, thanks for adding that valuable input. All the more reason to try to source the Type A inlet style dual filler neck.

When you got your part from Dave, did you happen to see a XXXXX-XXXXX part number on anything? It would be awesome to be able to target the exact part.

I don't have the part #; Dave might have a record of my purchase(s) though. But Rusty_TLC ordered the same part AFAIK from Dave earlier this year when he was originally going to install an aux tank on his '98.

Yeah, I saw that when I was reading up on this...somehow Rusty_TLC ended up with the Type B. I hadn't directly pm'ed you or him because I was still sorta in the discovery phase. The best would be able to track down the exact part number you got and the one Rusty_TLC got. I'll pm him.

Thanks for thinking of that with Dave...what name and/or e-mail address would he have you under?

Dave has me under spressomon at yahoo dot com My purchases were back in 2008.

Videre, just to be clear, Long Ranger and Long Range Automotive (LRA) are two different companies. If you want an LRA tank, this company will ship international.

If you want a Long Ranger tank, call the company directly. I "think" they have sold directly to US customers in the past. Ask them about the filler tube also. A long shot might be also contacting ARBUSA for this tank. ARB stores in Australia carry the LR tank so maybe, just maybe, they could throw one on in their next container to the US.

Ah, thank you for the clarification! I did not know that! I will e-mail them and see what is included in their kit and how much it would cost to send here to the U.S.

Yep located West Aust

I am working on finalizing the part number on the dual filler neck with Dave at Japan4x4. Looks like we could easily hit about $400 for the dual filler neck, the OEM subtank switch, and shipping. I am also looking into tanks from Long Ranger (through ARB here Stateside) and Long Range Automotive (direct from the manufacturer in Australia).

Should I keep updating this thread or start a new one when I get some solid information?

This is on my eventual list.... however it isnt going to be soon. It would be great to have all the exact part numbers, etc. In one thread that would hopefully get into the FAQ's.

I am working towards that goal...but man, there are a lot of options. You have the OEM subtank that rode above the spare tire, you have tank options from Long Ranger, Long Range Automotive, and Front Runner, not to mention how deep you want to go...transfer system or complete OEM setup.

Since spressomon isn't sharing the cost of his complete OEM subtank setup, I think that just shows the cost of that system. I just scratched the surface in looking for the parts for that and it would be a lot of money to do the complete retrofit. I think that that is the most expensive way to go, and I don't think anybody will go down that road.

The Long Ranger and Long Range Automotive setups are really nice. Both are not currently imported to the U.S. I am trying to get some numbers from ARB about the Long Ranger costs. I have been in dialog with Long Range Automotive, and their cost with air freight to the U.S. was almost $1900. Not bad for a complete setup, but still pretty hefty.

Right now I am leaning towards the Front Runner setup. Subtank costs $700 from Fernando at Camping Labs...add the dual filler with OEM subtank switch, make some mods, and you could be in it for $1100. As soon as January hits, I am going to pull the trigger on this mod. Just need to gather a little bit more info...
