G,day to all, I'm a rookie to this posting thing so please bear with me. I 've been reading alot of threads throughout the whole website and considerably impressed with everybodies tech knowledge on everything landcruiser and i especially like looking at everybodies rigs and projects, awesome stuff. unfortunately, along the way i have also read some not so nice stuff regarding mainly sales of cruisers from Australia to yourselves there in the U.S. It sounds like a few of you have been unhappy with what you have received ( condition of vehicle ) Please understand , we are not all painted with the same brush, i guess there are opportunistic shifty characters all over this wide planet. if there is anything i can help with in the future i.e. vehicle inspections, parts hunting etc. don't hesitate to message me. i may be of no help to some, but might be able to help some others.

I like it, looks tough. Any more pics/specs? Let's get all the details..

Welcome.

cheers guys, it's running a 6.5 chev v8 diesel, 4 speed manual with safari clutch, 2" old man emu springs and shocks, superior extended shackles, arb winch bar, disc brakes, power steer, 35" bfg muddies on 15x10 chromies, 2" widened front guards/fenders,extractors into 3" straight thru exhaust out twin chrome stacks, etc. etc. plans for the future are as follows:
*reverse shackles on front with 60 series springs and axle widening kit
*fit 5 speed from my 62 series
*fit second fuel tank i have sitting in the shed
*fit rear diff housing from the same 62 series
there's plenty more after that as you would all know yourselves, it's an obsession and a great way to relax. i will put some more pics up soon as i am not real flash with these computi things.

Very cool!

It's a little "blingy" for my taste, but that looks incredibly well done. Did you fabricate the trayback yourself? Is it steel or aluminum?

Any more pictures? I'd especially like to see more details for the trayback, and more overall pics of it on the truck, the second fuel tank, and the engine installation. Why did you dump the 2H, just to get the power of the 6.5, or had the 2H died?

Dan

the 2h had seen better days and the v8 diesel was a good deal at the time. i can say i have been more than happy with the conversion, as you can never run out of torque on any hill climb, only traction. and downhill is amazing with so much engine compression you hardly need brakes. and i must say the cruiser really cruises effortlessly with this combination. as for the trayback it's steel construction with slide on side gates( when necessary) also has a battery box built in. the tray suits me cause it can carry alot of camping gear and firewood etc. the second fuel tank is originally from a sixty series wagon and will be slightly modified to fit under the tray.yes you are right in saying it's a bit blingy, i guess it just turned out that way. i really do like original looking cruisers with standard colors, my previous rides were painted dune beige with white roof. i 've done this one to be a little bit different and it does turn heads wherever it goes and sounds pretty tuff to boot. i'll try and put some more pics up as soon as i can, but i seem to have a problem with the attachments part of this site telling me i have used my quota of kb's or mb's whichever it is, and i don't know how to get around it. maybe somebody could help as i am not good with computers. much appreciated. chris

Buy a Silver Star and upload all the pics you want.

Is the 6.5 the one with the ceramic slugs? Do the 2" wider guards require a wider side-step or do they taper in at the rear?

Gonna put A/C in it mate?

Looks really cool. Traybacks are the go.

thanks herbs for the comment, and too you cult 45 the motor is a mid 90's one without the newer technology and bit's, not that there was too much of an advance. even so it' got plenty of torque and great compression braking making it ideal on the tracks, and it's been in this truck since 99' without any repairs or breakdowns. that's all i can ask from it so i'm a happy camper so far. as for the A/C, got the factory A/C system under the bench in the shed as i'm a window's down kind of bloke and it's just something else to go wrong. cheers

G'day alberta mac, looks like i'm going to put 60 series rear springs on both the front and back at this stage. i'm also looking at new shock hoops, as i may have to have longer shocks for the extra droop and possibly a longer front driveshaft. a bit more research will enable me to go with the right combination and not spending hard earned dollars twice to get it right. i'll let you know what happens. thanks for comment. i like what you have done with the extra cab, it makes it unique and cool.

Awesome rig:cheers:! We don't get tray backs here in South Africa but I just recently made one for my HJ47 and it's really cool. Very impressed with what you got there, show us more pics please:bounce: I want to see that engine. Cheers

Impressive no doubt. I am new to this but I do know landcrusiers and I am looking for a similar rig to yours. Do you know if they ever made the hj47 with the 5speed and a turbo diesel? I am very familar with Australia since I ship sea containers of food there weekly so I am thinking of trying to purchase a "mint" ute like yours and shipping it back. Any advise or help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. If you ever need anything let me know and I can ship it downunder.

Cheers,

Craig

G'day ahleebaba, thanks for your comment. the australian versions of the HJ 47 only came with the 5 speed at the end of it's run in 1984 and they didn't come from the factory with a turbo on the 2h diesel motor although at the time you may have been able to get a turbo installed at the dealers, but i'm not sure about that. i think they are a great vehicle especially with the V8 diesel with endless amounts of torque in the bush or forest or woods whichever you like to call it. the downside with these vehicles is the rust that can hide in the body, you really have to have a good look at them closely if you are going to buy. not that rust stop's you off road. but it can become a lot of work. ( my motor isn't standard as well just way better and quite economical) parts are not too hard to source generally and not to expensive most of the time, like any hobbie they can soon become a money pit. so take care and let me know if there is more i can do for you. thanks
