Don't know if this has been covered before or not.
I was cleaning up some parts for my 87 resto and came to the Flash Gordon raygun looking part from the intake manifold.
As I started reaming tons of resin junk out with a wire I noticed the little vacuum nipple was completely clogged shut and tight. I had another from a parts truck and found it was clogged shut as well.
I soaked it in laquer thinner for a while and it took some work with some small pieces of brass wire to get it unclogged.
I believe it connects to a vsv with vaccum lines and goes to the carburetor for the a/c kickup possibly?
Being clogged shut can't possibly be helping matters.
