My 2000 and 2001 LX470's have had no issues with the AHC system. I haven't seen anything in the previous owner's records about changing fluid. I haven't done that yet...I may do that next year in the summer. I am at 112K and 102K respectively. Not a problem with the system at all. However, I just added Slee front and rear bumpers to both rigs. One can still get up to High mode...the other one can't. My future plans are to pull the AHC out and go with a traditional suspension that is upgraded to carry more weight.

I should have been more specific! I had a 99 LX with 94k miles and no issues! Traded it in for a 2006 LX and had all sorts of problems. In 2006 Toyota out sourced lots of parts for the system thus the TSB etc I think a better poll may involve model year???? Denso made everything before 06 and I believe they are back with them in the 200 series. 06 and 07 are the problem years and the land cruiser in those years had the system also

No issues so far on my 2002 LX470 with 250.000 kms.
Only turned up the torsion bars to compensate for the bar and get it back to the neutral pressure.
I still have to do swap the rear springs, but that's only because the originals are still under the car.
That will also eliminate the sagging when towing the camper trailer hopefully.
Apart from that, no issues.

01 LX470 125k miles. No failures per se. I did change the fluid, added 10mm shims to the rear springs. Replaced the rear springs, and dialed up the torsion bars. I replaced the globes for good measure. The truck really rides great. It rides soo much better than a Lincoln Navigator or Ford Expedition. After putting on LTZ tires, it is more quiet on the highway than our 08 Odyssey.
So you responded "yes", correct?

My 2000 100 series with 209K I changed fluid it when I got at 157K and noticed that there was some other unknown fluid in it. so flushed it completely with 3 cans of AHC fluid and it was black . So far no problems, no leaks and sometimes will adjust itself when sitting weird angles. I run most of the normal mode or when traveling for a long distance comfort mode. It also got a work out when up on the Alaska highway with various road surfaces up there including about 90 miles of dirt road this past summer. I think the fluid changes are very much needed per 60K mileage. I think it is normal HYD fluid with red color added to make every body go to Toyota to get the stuff, I could be wrong.

cAN'T quite see the point of this, as we all know that the AHC system adds complexity and parts, which equals possible failures. Maybe 3-4 times over. The biggest problem with the system is lack of understanding.
The actual failures are mainly from either lack of proper maintenance, misuse, or water ingress in height sensors.
Except from that, it's the normal wear as on any conventional suspension, and an occational electrical failure (very few).

Well Im trying to get an idea of the reliability of the system when its been maintained according to the factory. Personally, I don't think the added convenience, comfort, or whatever its supposed to provide, of having the system is even worth the time and cost to maintain it, much less if it has any failures or problems. But I'm just curious because Im a car nerd.

By the way, 06-07 Cruiser owners with AHC, feel free to respond as well.

LX470 2000 with 132k. Yes issues. 8-9. Sensors lost count. Acumulators at 78k. 2 Front accumulators 131k fluid changed each time with accumulators. Lexus Service departments not real familiar with this system.

I had a 2001 LX with 180k miles and no problems with AHC. Had not changed fluid to my knowledge. It had terrible rust problems. I traded it for a 2002 with 82k and no rust. Earlier this year with 100k my ecu went out on the AHC. Toyota dealer offered the option of just unplugging the ACH rather than replacing the $2000 computer. I opted to do this. The height is about what it was normally and ride is similar to sport. I've been running it this way for about 8k miles and seems fine. I'll keep this as is till I need to put different suspension on.

Surprising they would offer that. I guess as long as the valves stay locked and the globes stay intact you'll be fine.

I was surprised too, but it seems to be working for now.

06 - no issues. Only had fluid flushed as recommended by maintenance schedule. 125k miles and we tow a 4500lb camper.

I bought my '07 LX in February with just over 90k kms (55k miles). Fluid had never been changed and ride was rougher than I thought it should be. Bought a techstream and found pressures high front and rear. Replaced AHC fluid and rear springs. Pressures in the rear improved but are still at the high end. I have not adjusted front T-bars yet. Once that's done I'll check pressures again.

I have never noticed a significant difference between comfort/normal/sport, and the ride is still a bit rougher than what I perceive is normal when reading about the AHC system here on mud.

I have done some towing (2500lbs trailer with 3000lb car) and found the system very sensitive to the weight balance on the tongue. I had to move the car further towards the back of the trailer to avoid the system kicking into low.

Rear sensor failed around 125k miles; otherwise it's not given me any problems in the ~50k miles I've put on the truck.

230k miles may 1998 LX470:
Changed all 4 accumulators to offroad variation
Changed pump (both parts)
Changed valve assy
Changed all 4 shocks
And off course AHC oil about 4 times
