Hi all,

I know this subject has been discussed ad nauseam because I have read every thread pertaining to my issue, or tangentially related to my issue.

I have a 2000 LX470 with low 200k miles that has a rotational clicking noise that I can not identify and help would be appreciated.

My LC clicks when on throttle in gear. It does not click when coasting in neutral, nor at a stop. It's loud when driving past parked cars as if it's echoing. Turning the LC does not change the click, and hard acceleration makes it difficult to hear. It's loudest right on throttle from a stop. I have checked all u joints and even changed my front prop driveshaft just because I thought thats where it was coming from. Rear driveshaft is good and has no play in it. Everything is greased. I'm not really leaning towards an exhaust leak because I don't hear the click at idle, and I'm not leaning towards anything in the wheels/hubs because it only happens under load. Front CV's were recently replaced and look good.

How else should I diagnose this problem? I may just drive it until something breaks at this point, but I'd really like to baseline the vehicle.

Exhaust leak? An exhaust leak can sound almost exactly like a lifter tap...that, combined with prevalence upon throttle says exhaust manifold to me...
It might be small enough that it doesn't present at idle.

BTW, nice use of the word "tangentially"

Thank you!

Would I not hear it when reving in neutral? I suppose it could be the dreaded cracked header, but it sure sounds like its from my under carriage.

I guess next step is to connect TeachStream to check for misfires. I have... some rougher than brand new coils on it... Who doesn't??

It might need to be under load to present...but yeah, one would think you would hear it when revving.

Rock in your tire? ;)

Actually, that was meant as a joke but look for a nail or screw embedded in a tire. It happens.

The only times I've seen an exhaust leak it presented at idle and under load but this does give me a new avenue to pursue. I'll need to get the ole girl up on all four to see if I can narrow it does more.

I'm waiting for this thing to grenade but then I remember I bought a Land Cruiser not a Land Rover... l could probably not touch a thing and drive it until my next timing belt is due without a single problem though I do have a bit of a squeal from my starter when I fire it up...
