From as well CA, I chose the transmission skid first. A big reason was that it also provides protection against catalytic converter thieves. Also, the factory plastic piece is pretty flimsy if you still have it.

I have all the plates except for front skid at this point. Mainly because that is the one place that at least came with some type of skid. I also wheel in deserts/rocky stuff. Tbh, I have never hit anything.

I have a broken OEM fiber cover behind the front steel one. Wondering if the transmission skid is a direct replacement to fit with the front OE steel one? Did this fit well for you @JohnMed ?

Yes, this was a perfect replacement. My fiber cover was also broken. As an added bonus, this more expansive armor also does a really good job of protecting much of the catalytic converters. There is no interference with OEM front steel skid plate, they do not physically touch each other.

Has anyone experienced rattling with their Asfir plates? I have a noise (like the thunderous sound from shaking sheet metal) that I cannot figure out (nor can four other garages). I don’t think it’s the plates (nor do the four other garages), but I’m at the end of my wits.
Thanks.

Cat shields?

Also check your cross bracket that bolts to the frame. Mine goes over ubolts for my sliders and I used spacers to keep it tight.

Will this front skid plate clear trail tailer diff drop?

Yes, just did it, but the center bolt isn’t long enough with the diff drop. I copied another’s idea on here and used a cut down 4x4 block under the center mount instead of the supplied spacer. It’s much more stout. Wish I would have thought of that 2 years ago.

Can you post a picture of what you're talking about? I'm having trouble visualizing.

A bit hard to see, but the 4x4 is about 8” long and cut down to about 3.25” tall. That is where the center bolt goes on the skids. Asphir come with a less than robust aluminum space that would never hold much weight. You could jack on that section now with the wood block.

I understand now. Is there a bolt going through the wood into the truck?

About to pull the trigger on a front skid plate. How's the ground clearance? Is it tucked pretty tight or similar to the stock plate?

If you are only interested in clearance, the stock plate has about the best clearance you can get because its concave. The lowest point on the truck is the differential cross member, so when you do a diff drop you actually lose some clearance. The plates bolt directly to the diff cross member.

Copy that. Thanks for the info! I'm not super concerned, just don't wont it to be a significant decrease in clearance. I saw a photo that had a weird angle and made it look as if the drop was pretty low. I think I'm gonna pull trigger. The reviews seem great and I'm not gonna be doing any wicked rock runs. Lol

Asfir front skid tucks up pretty tight to the underside.
I really like how light they are(and so does my mechanic ). I have the full set.

Also, I am totally copying @Bisho 4x4 wood block spacer mod.

Awesome! I agree, tucks pretty nice. Been trying to find photos with the skid and stock bumper, and that 100% sealed the deal. Thanks for the photo! Looks good!

Yes. I bought a 120mm long bolt.
Thought I’d update this. I no longer put a bolt through the wood block. It’s too much of a PITA, and it’s one less thing to bend out of shape on a trail. The block is wedged in there and won’t go anywhere.

Sharing my experience and setup.

Asfir front and mid (transmission) skids installed.

One important modification I did was cut 2” holes along the exhaust to dump heat. Maybe it helps, maybe not but I feel better given the fuel lines and exhaust are trapped under the skid.

I did not want the asfir transfer case skid because of the additional crossmember so I got a 1” hole saw and bored out holes to bolt up the stock transfer case deflector which is mounted over the transmission skid.

I have the transmission skid mounted under my metal tech sliders. Not thrilled about that but it works.

The quality of the skids work for me. 1/4 inch aluminum, weight is fine for AHC, good price, peace of mind etc. Install was easy, did it alone. Everything lined up.
