Looking for a new metal skid plate for the 100 Series. I'll be replacing an ASFIR that has gotten ratty.

Are there any metal skip plactes available?

This is from when it was new. It has been slotted now.

Ive seen these pop up as a stock alternative. I dont know anything about them and dont think Ive seen anyone mention them. Im happy with Dissent but they are now quite spendy. This add is for 200 series but Ive seen the same for the 100. Might be worth reaching out to him.

I think I like the Talon Garage. I tried to call this afternoon. I'm awaiting a return call.

Let us know if you end up getting the TG plates. I have been meaning to get rid of ASFIR stuff for personal reasons

Does anyone have a contact for Talon Garage? I've been trying to reach them to ask a question. Sale Pending.

Their site says email is their preferred form of contact.
Thanks Truck -- I tried email that and the site form for submitting a question.

I just installed Talon's Garage on my 2000 100 Series Land Cruiser.

They were the only commercial off-the-shelf skids that allows a combination of steel front skids (radiator and engine) with aluminum skids for the middle (transmission and transfer case). I wanted a hybrid approach to save weight since I won't be bashing into rocks a lot but wanted something beefy in the front just in case I do something stupid (which I am prone to do). I figure if I hit something hard it'll give me enough warning to stop and back up before the rock gets to the middle part of the skid.

Now the real test is to actually see what they will do. So that will most likely take months, if not years to find out.

@OwnerCS Did Talon ever get back to you? Looking to buy a front skid and maybe the transmission skid, so looking for some feedback/reviews.

Yes, they did, and I bought one. Installation has been delayed because my Tundra and GX470 projects took priority over the 100 restoration. It will be in the coming months when I get to start using them.

Here's my install update:

I installed my Talon's Garage skid plates. The front two pieces which cover the radiator and oil pan are steel and the rest was aluminum. Thankfully Talon's Garage designed them to fit together. I installed the radiator, engine, and transmission skid plates without any issues

During the install of the transfer case skid plate, I encountered some fitment issues. Some of the slots for the bolts on the provided cross member for the transfer case skid did not line up with the threaded holes on the U-brackets that attach to the frame (see 3:19 mark in the below video). I ended up using a using a jack to push them up to get the slow and holes to line up before I could properly insert the bolt without cross threading anything. All in all, it's still doable and didn't require any special tools or fancy mechanics skills and can be done by a beginner mechanic like me.

Here is the official install video from Talon's Garage:

The spot you want a steel skid is the belly pan- under the Transmission and Transfercase. Why? It’s your breakover spot on this truck. Aluminum won’t glide like steel it will drag, bend and in some instances crack. Also since the transmission mount is fixed to the skid - you want this to be solid AF- no chance for it to bend or loose its shape- otherwise you’ll risk driveline alignment problems if it gets bent.

I have the opposite set up-Slee aluminum front and intermediate and steel belly skid.

Another option out there is Bud Built- they are making100 Series skids now- and they tend to make very stout skids.

Yeah I saw bud built has sliders now. Have you tried them?

My truck is fully built so I’m not in the market for armor. Was throwing out another alternative. None of it is on there website- you’ll have to call and ask.
