Hi all

I was just wondering if as the club grows if we were interested in joining organizations such as the TLCA and the Blue Ribbion Coalition? I know that we aren't a big club (with lots of money) but was wondering if it would be something that members could do as a "donation". I just want to see that club grow etc.

Just a thought I had at work today.:grinpimp:

These steps are part of the "plan" at some point. My stance on joining other organizations is that we first need to prove to ourselves that we can make it as a club. We've come so very far in the short time we've been getting organized but we still have a very long way to go before we are ready to make a commitment to other organizations.

I hear you. It was just a thought...board...waiting for a baby...:grinpimp:

long term plan is fine...this might have already been talked about some time btw 9 when I leave and 1am when you all leave the meet :D

I like the idea of joining the TLCA. I am not sure I see a downside.

OR maybe we should consider joining these guys:

I don't really know what they do-- and it seems like it would add significantly to our membership costs. But maybe we should consider it.

Howdy! I highly recommend that all club members individually join as many appropriate organizations as possible for the political clout that it carries. The ASA4WDC is the parent organization for all clubs in Arizona. I am a delegate to it's meetings for another 4WD club. It is not available for individual memberships. I personally belong to a number of orginizations that can have a positive effect on our sport/hobby. United Four Wheel Drive, Blue Ribbon Coalition, TLCA, Gold Prospectors Association of America, NRA, Quad and dirt bike clubs, hunting and fishing clubs, and many other organizations have lobbyists that make our wants known to the politicians. They don't look at our names, but they do look at the total number of votes that are out here and what we wantThe bigger the membership, the more attention a group can attract politically.

ASA4WDC dues are $20 per club member annually. I don't remember the $$$ for TLCA. I agree with BMAN that this club is a little young to be getting into these groups yet, but it is something we can look at as we grow. Membership in such organizations requires more dues, delegates, volunteers, rules, time, bylaws, formalities, etc. Not that those are bad things, but it can get complicated real fast. I hope this club can maintain its friendly, informal, low key atmosphere as it grows and develops. Seriously!!

Good advice John. That's the trick bag that we are trying to do, get organized and participate in and support groups like those without getting bogged down in endless meetings and political BS. A happy medium needs to be found between, running the program behind the seines and obsessing about every detail. Clubs should be all about having a good time, it's too easy to let business creep in and reduce the fun!

The political BS is the thing that brings down alot of clubs like this and really turns me away from many clubs. The only reason I enjoy being a part of this club is it is without that type of BS. I can get on the Forum and get advice and find out about trips with other like minded individuals. That is what I like about this club and I would like it to stay with that type of format. I am all about growth but there is nothing wrong with slow growth through word of mouth.

I totally agree with the idea that this club should stay clear of the political BS. Also I was never intending the club grow through such affiliations. What I had intended was that it would be nice for our club to support groups that fight for our rights to use our Cruisers in the areas we love so much. In particular I was talking about the Blue Ribbon coalition that fights to keep our rights to use the roads we love so much and fights to keep the tread lightly ideas for our loved past time. I was prepared to donate the club membership to the BRC, but it was an idea that was not taken as I intended and that is fine either way. I just wanted the best for our club that I enjoy.

So far I have enjoyed this club and the people I have met thru this CSC forum. I am a TLCA member, but honestly the only real thing I get out of it is the magazine, which BTW, if you don't get it is well worth the price of TLCA membership. Being in the TLCA has, however, led me to here and you cats! Whether we join up larger orgs or not isn't as important to me as keeping this club COOL. If this thing ever gets politcal or BS I will either lead a personal charge against that, or say F-it and quit. I don't need the BS and won't stand for it. I believe most of us feel the same way, so the club should stay pretty cool.
Happy New Year!
