Are the 100 owners having consistent success with these keyless entry fobs??

FYI, 1998 Landcruisers cant have new keys reprogrammed. I learned this the hard way. They screwed up when they made the ECU in 98 and if they erase it to reprogram new keys, its done, and then you need a new ECU.

I have 2 keys I bought off of ebay that I programmed, you only have to replace ECU if you don't have a master key.

Awesome, let me know if indeed these are the ones you bought, sounds like you have a success story!

I bought mine from mykeyless on ebay, item # ( 380748567346 )

For you all that have bought new keys, do the new keys improve the range of the remote? I have 2 keys from PO. One key - the remote is absolutely useless. I have to be next to the drive side door to work. The other key isnt as bad, but the range is still bad, only a few feet from the vehicle before I can unlock the door. So I am thinking that the remote itself may have something to do with the range, and maybe new remote may work better?

The range is not good!

Just bought my LX a few weeks ago and it came with only one key. Thankfully it was a master so I had another made as a spare. In the process the locksmith commented my key was called an eternity key and he had only heard of them and never seen one in person. Apparently they are guaranteed for life. So I researched them and found the website. Pricey, but worth it if it's the last key you'll ever buy. I will be getting another one of these at some point so I can use it and put this one aside so I don't lose the master. Looks like they are mostly for Lexus, but I don't know why that wouldn't also work in a Landcruiser. Here's the link >>>Eternity Key<<<

My local Lexus dealer charged me $25 to cut a new key for my GX470 which I thought was an acceptable price. I called all the locksmiths in my area and nobody could do it. I only received 1 master with my truck and have been looking for a solution to this problem as well as Lexus wanted something like $300 for a second key! I like the idea of tie wrapping a transponder key to the column and then using regular keys, but what about the keyless entry?

A few of us have Eternity Keys for our Land Cruisers. They did an R&D batch for the Toyotas, but never went into full production like they did with Lexus (blanks are different). If you have an LX and still have an operable transponder from your old master, I'd wouldn't hesitate to recommend this solution. After a year of use, I have no concerns about the durability of the key and body.

Update....I'm having zero luck registering the keys through TechStream. It indicates a "communication failure between the new key and ECU". Makes me think the keys do not contain the necessary electronics. I've contacted through flea bay, I'll update when I hear back. For now......they work great as replacement shells. I just switched my masters out into these shells.

I'm new here, but I just bought an 07 which came with only a valet key. My local Toyota dealership quoted me over $550 for two new master keys cut and programmed. I found this website, Keylessoption.com, only wanted $20/key uncut with transponder and built-in fob.

Filter Result | KeylessOption

I showed this link to my local locksmith, who has a $3,000 key programming machine, and he said he could cut they keys and program BOTH for $50 total. He said if he ordered the keys they would be $150 each, since he essentially was forced to buy an oem key, but if I brought in a key he'd be glad to program it. So I paid $40 for two keys and I think free shipping, and brought him the two new keys, the valet key and the truck last Monday at lunch. The 07 apparently had a valet key that is physically similar enough to a master in terms of the pin cuts that he was able to make the pin cuts on a regular key copy machine. Then he plugged this expensive adapter and laptop into the ODB reader and reset some things and we had to wait ~16 minutes for the ECU theft prevention timeout. Once that was complete he went through the master and valet key programming procedure (door open/close, key off etc) and I left with a valet, 2 programmed master key with integrated FOBS, and only $90 (programming and cost of keys from website) total out of pocket. He did give me the impression that doing the same procedure on other model years (03 in particular) should have been more involved/tricky/expensive. So I hope this helps. Ymmv. If any one wants the contact info for my locksmith send me a pm.

Have you changed the battery in your remote?

I'd like to get an extra set up like that, I have a lx though, does anyone know compatibility for an 04?

The LX keys are a laser cut key, different than the LC key. The closest Lexus dealership said they could cut a new key for me and transfer the guts into a new case for $69.95. The local Toyota dealer (closer) said they could not do the Lexus laser cut keys, but recommended a locksmith to me who got a blank, cut it, and transferred the guts for me for $64.95.

There has got to be a comprehensive tutorial on the key systems for these 100/470s?

I think you would have to buy an additional transponder, looks like they go for over $150...

On a side note, for those who are without a Master Key and therefore cannot program, and also cannot afford the exorbitant cost of a new ECU....have any had any success/experience with doing an ECU re-flash??
