I think I'm in the market for a new gearbox, or a rebuild of the current. Looking around at what's available there don't seem to be any R151F transmissions from my vehicle, or similar vehicles (1991 PZJ77).

So my question is: Can I just grab any old R151F, or are there aspects to them that are vehicle-model specific? There seem to be a few available from 1997-2005 Hilux 4x4 and if those will drop in without too much bother it'd be good to know.

Hilux (Vigo) inlet shaft is shorter than land cruiser. If have good shape can swap it.

Also, the transfer adapter will be different for any non-LandCruiser model. 1995+ models will not interchange with the earlier versions; most of the internal parts changed, as did the output bearing size and input shaft. An R151f from a newer 70-series would work, but would require a new or modified transmission crossmember and shortened rear/lengthened front driveshafts.

Yes.
First need check free space between transfer and the round tube that reinforces chassis.
Base, cross member and transmission supports. I think can be used from models LJ70 or HZJ79

Summary
Vigo R151f (only transmission) to LC series 70 (use LC70 transfer)
- Need input shaft for LC70 (partsouq)
- I thing transmission-transfer flange is the same. (Please,If anyone can confirm this )
I have a spare transmission r151f take out from HZJ79(2019). If want check flange measures.

H15x (new available)V8
- need input shaft (because is too long) for LC Hz 21spline or HD 14 spline ( flywheel 275mm or 300mm clutch type)
- transfer HF1A directly
- drive shaft change length
- Compulsive behavior for upgrade the engine with HD-T or HDT-FT
