I need some help with my Sahara bar installation... I got this tubeless Sahara for my '99 and I need to know what bolts I need to install it. I got the instructions and there are tons of washers, etc listed. Some m-14 and m-12 bolts. Blah blah I called slee and he said that ARB sells a whole install kit that would come with too much stuff and be pretty expensive. Too much stuff meaning, some unnecessary things as well. My question is..does anyone know where I can find what I need to install this bad boy? Here are the instructions I'm looking at.

http://store.arbusa.com/Assets/file/3913140I.PDF Thanks

Well, the list of bolts is right in the instructions, decide what parts of the bumper you're going to install (winch cover, fairlead, etc), take the list to a nut and bolt supply house and buy it. If you just got the bare bumper with no install hardware I'd buy the kit from ARB. Then you'd have all the correct spacers, hardware, and bits.

after calling ARB, it seems that there may be a problem getting the fitting kit item # 6172374

i've emailed who they suggested looking for one, hopefully that pans out for me

If you buy the hardware yourself, be sure they are high tensile.
And don't forget the crushing tubes if you have airbags. Not sre if you can buy them seperate.

When I installed my ARB Combo (03+) on my 2000 I remember most of the hardware just behind generic high strength bolts and washers. Nothing proprietary. I would bet you could take some measurements and get most of the hardware at a bolt store.

Find out what is in the ARB Installation Kit and try and source everything yourself. It may be cheaper and quicker.

Agree with 2000UZJ, the tech who put on my used bumper with zero parts bought all outright as well. About 1/3 the cost of the ARB kit -- he told me this after the fact which I was very happy with!

The longest m12 in stock at my local bolt company is 160mm. Instructions call for 200mm

But, the guy gave me some 1/2 in. 200mm bolts to try. They are a little thicker so, I gotta see if they go through the bumper and packer tubes. I'll post here in case someone else has this issue

Try http://www.mcmaster.com . They have just about everything you will need.

ok, so...here is what I THINK I need, or can make do with

would really really appreciate someone with some experience giving this the once over to tell me how far off I am

The only thing I cannot find or find some suitable substitute for is the 2 channel packers...I saw where another poster on this board used washers in place of the packer but, that is not ideal.

No ARB bumper here, but you might be able to use SAE washers in lieu of metric ones if you can't find anything close, but from looking at your list it looks like you have everything. I believe washer spring is referring to a lock washer.

You might want to try spacers instead of the term channel packer. Since in the manual that you linked that's what they look like Must be the terminology for the boffins (mechanics) down under, lol. http://www.mcmaster.com/#unthreaded-spacers/=lu84h2

I might suggest getting some tapping / cutting fluid (I like Tap Magic) and a chaser tap in M12, M14 (and tap handle). Since after you remove your bolts there might be some gunk / rust that might make it hard to put in your new hardware. You can get it from McMaster also. Don't want to start your assembly and get stuck and have to get it.

Depending where you live you might be able to get some parts from Grainger (it's similiar to McMaster but their online catalog isn't as neatly as organized grainger.com) you can go to their warehouse in person.

Also since stuff might be rusty, make sure you have a breaker bar handy, PB blaster, to loosen the stuck bolt. You definitely don't want to break off a bolt and have to try and drill it out / extract it. Major PITA. I had to use a breaker bar to uninstall the factory tow points. Oh and get some fluidfilm. http://www.fluid-film.com/ Spray some on your bolts when you reinstall stuff to inhibit rush formation in your mounting points.

I also purchased a used sahara bar and it did not contain the tube packers. I took the longest bolt (M12) to the local Ace hardware store. I found a piece of threaded pipe that was fairly close. We cut it to fit and used that. Basically the tube packer prevents the frame from collapsing when you tighten down the ARB to the frame.
