ARB Bp-51 vs. King 2.5 BP

I think it was @kcjaz that had his own pretty disappointing story with regard to BP51 rebuilds.
ARB had “free rebuild” promotion around the time I was rebuilding my rig and had the suspension off so I sent them in for rebuild. The only thing they did was replace the bushings and I believe at least tested the N2 pressure/charge. They would not replace any seals or other internal parts w/o external evidence of leaks. Given the effort of pulling off the shocks and shipping them to ARB, not to mention the 6weeks it took to turn them around, that’s disappointing. My bushings were bad so having them replaced was needed but I also wanted the seals/internals redone to get me another 50k miles.

I’ll be going King for the next round.

6 week turn around time should come with a full rebuild. With my luck they’d be leaking within the month. I’ll keep mine to throw on while my kings are rebuilt.

I recently made the jump from BP51’s to Kings, I’m about 2k miles in so far and no regrets. My plan was to send the BO51’s in for rebuilding so I could either sell them or sit on them for spares. ARB will not rebuild them without photo evidence of physical leaking, and then it is still not a guarantee that they will accept them as a rebuild case. This is all according to the ARB CS rep I was emailing with. Now I’m sitting on 40k mile beat on BP51’s to run when I have my kings rebuilt by Filthy Motorsports in about 50k miles. Ben at Filthy said they will rebuild without question and 50k is a good time to start the consideration process, schedule around a good down time period.
Not sure where you are in this great place but in Southern California one benefit of having the off road racing industry based here is many reputable shops offer same day rebuild service.

I’m in Georgia. I searched the internet and found a dozen shock shops, all in CA. I’ve asked around here and they all ship west. I’ll likely end up buying the tools to do them myself, but for now I’m shipping.

Not sure if it is any closer, but Filthy Motorsports is in Boulder, CO and has a lot of KING shock support. He puts out great educational videos too.

Ben is much closer and that’s who I got my Kings through.

I need to bite the bullet and get whatever speciality tools to do the rebuilds myself.
