ARB BASE RACK AND SHARK FIN ANTENNA ISSUE ON 2021

I'm considering the smaller rack (behind sunroof) as well. Would the hardware allow for the rack to move forward an inch or two to clear the fin?
The 61 x 51 is the smallest size "designed" for the LC200. There is a 49 x 51 (and an even smaller size for jeeps), but the mounts don't align with the LC hard points.

From what I understand there are no channels on the outside rails of the rack. The mounts only attach to the cross rails which are welded in place. Hopefully vmfire or browndog can confirm.

Mounts do attach under the welded cross rails so there is not a lot of front to back adjustment.

Could I purchase a matching set?
I can see if my guys can make another set and what they cost. (I don’t actually know yet). Probably be a week or so as they are wrapping up my build.

If that Corolla part fits, that sounds like a great (and inexpensive- $57 new) way for you guys with these arb racks to go. Someone should give it a try!

Hadn't gone down this rabbit-hole on the 4Runner thread until just now. Thanks for the nudge, I'm going to attempt to source that Corolla part.

The solution would seem to be as simple as this. I think we've all been waiting for guidance from either ARB, or from someone who can definitively say what modifying the component under the shark fin will result in. The fear of an extensive electrical, NAV or warranty issue is daunting.

The chips look to be Ceramic Patch RF Antennas for the supported bands (XM, Terrestrial, GPS). The pinkish one is similar to an XM Taoglas module. The metal fin is likely the LTE antenna for the SOS/"on-star like" capability.

I am on the list for modified mount kit having purchased it in August and got it in January... if the solution is to simply raise the rack (the simplest fix), wind noise and signal quality are my concerns (typically you don't like large metal features obscuring RF antennas). We shall see what they deem acceptable.

Virtually every other rack snugs right up near the fin, and I have yet to hear much in the way of significant effects on reception. Even a tech at GoFastCampers (who sliced off the top half of his fin and filled it with epoxy to accomodate a rtt on his GX 470) claimed to have no issues in rural Montana.

Assuming the tall, metal fin only controls the SOS telemetrics, the concern for me continues to be whether or not removing it will have a resulting effect on the electrical system (error code) or any diagnostic functions beyond SOS capability.

The previous fin replacement options (Corolla, 4Runner delete, flat-out removing it) aren't applicable to '20,'21 LC's (at least, don't know about other years) because the internal components are shaped differently.

Bringing this one back. I got an email today that ARB will be shipping the new design Base Rack soon, and I reserved mine for an August installation.

No details were given to me by Mudrak other than it's coming...if anyone has info, I'd love to read it.

Also, who is going full size (84") vs 3/4 (61")?

I've been away from Mud for soooo long. You guys have been busy during the shutdown. At least my guitar collection grew : )

I plan to install the 84" unit since I don't care about obstruction into the sunroof. Do you have the modified mounting kit part number? ARB USA told me the current racks are not being modified for the LC200, thus the overall rack assy height will increase by at least an inch. Curious to what Mudrak is installing on your rig.

I was just told they are now shipping the rack. I assumed it was a corrected design. As soon as I get more info, I will post it, but that might not be until it arrives at the shop. Hoping ARB rep will let us know. The extra inch defeats one of its most attractive points...

Has anyone seen the new Land Rover Defender's expedition rack? It has a cutout for the fin:

I agree on going with 84". I love the roof open & unobstructed view, but if I'm putting on a rack, I might as well get full use out of it.

Another option is the 72" model. It front edge lines up with the stock side rails end. About mid point of the sunroof

My thoughts exactly. Also, why did they have to discontinue the original version? All they would have to do is add one more mounting rail option to their lineup of many for many different vehicles? Extremely frustrating ridiculous rollout.

I was going to go all ARB all around my 08 TLC (except BudBuilt sliders)....now will probably go Gamivitti roof rack and Dobinson or MetalTech bumpers....I don't like dealing with companies who screw up this bad, then screw up the "solution" even worse.
