Hi!
Im just in the finishing stage of restoring my BJ42.

WHAT I GOT:
- I have a 1981 BJ42 with a new Aqualu Tub AND Cowl.

MY PROBLEM/SITUATION :
- My cowl actually touches the clutch housing of my 3B diesel engine.
- I can either do a 1 Inch bodylift or i can slightly modify my cowl.

I persume they have built the cowl for the petrol engine, and the clutch housing on the petrol engine is not the same as my 3B diesel engine.

Is there anyone here that has a AluCowl on a BJ42? If so what was your solution?

Bump'd to Intl, since none of us US guys know diddly about the 3B stuff (we are just jealous instead...lol)

did you locate the tub properly on the frame,? do you have enough room to notch the tub to clear the slave?
did you contact Todd from aqualu and ask him? he is very helpful
cheers

I think the slight body lift is a good thing for some other clearance issues on BJ42 IMO.

Go for it, way nicer than using a hammer, torch or grinder to make it clear and ruin that beautiful body.

Good looking cruisers in your link.....

Yep the bodylift is probably the best idea, i was also wondering if this is a known issue on the diesel engine. Everything else is perfeclty aligned on the frame so its probably an know issue.

I also see that the original cowl has an "cutout" for the edic arm which the aqualu cowl dont have, but its enough clearance anyway. But tweeking stuff is half the fun isnt it? :)

I could call TODD, but i have lost all faith in CruiserSolutions. They still owe me a alu grill, it has taken 14n months now. The tub itself took 6-7 months. So the less i talk to Todd the happier i am! Im never ever gonna use CS any more.

And hey, thanks for liking my cruisers :)

I have an Aqualu tub on my 1981 BJ42 as well. I did a body lift, and do not recall if I ever fitted it without the lift in place. Your battery trays, fender supports, steering box, etc all need extending if you go up much. I only went an inch.

I think he means Todd from Aqualu http://www.aqualu.com/ Great guy to deal with. Give him a call or shoot him an e-mail and see what he says.

yep, i meant Todd from Aqualu...
sorry i just assumed you would have bought it from the source instead of a middle man...
and i did install a couple 3/4 tubs on the diesels and never had a problem (without a body lift)
then i re-read you concern and it is hitting the cowl, eh?
see what Todd says...
cheers

Ok, hmm the Todd i talked to works at CruiserSolutions, i thaught i was one of the guys who once started up Aqualu. Anyway, the Todd i am dealing with is a nice guy to talk to, but nothing ever happens.. :) All talk, no action..

Anyway ill go with the 1Inch bodylift i think, that will for sure do the trick. Actually i dont more than some few millimeters but when im first lifting ill do an inch.

Thanks for the help guys!

I had the same problem on my 82 BJ42. When I bought the veichle the tub was right against the housing. I drove it for a couple weeks without fixing it but it made a hell of a lot of noise. Ended up just cutting a 2x3 inch section of the tub out and riviting a piece of aluminum over the hole. Thats all it took to clear it.

I think you'll love the tub. If your going to spend much time on the highway I would consider undercoating it while its off. I've had mine for 3 years and I've had no problems.

LOL : mizzoubj i can only imagine the noise your 3B has made against the tub, the 3B aint exactly a smooth running engine.. Thanks for the info.

As for the undercoating. Im gonna soundproof my tub inside, so i get it as quiet as possible.

Anybody else think it's funny that Aqualu, a Canuck company, would make a product that doesn't fit a large number of Canuck cruisers? They may shoot for the US market or something, but I would make a product that fit all those 3B'd BJ40 series out there. Makes me wonder about my plan of getting a cowl to match my 3/4 tub.

Yep thats really strange, itll take so little to tweak it for the Diesel engine, only a few millimeters. But anyway, dont let that stop you, its an easy fix to either do a bodylift or tweak it slightly :) its not a big problem really

Havard, you're thinking of TEDD, not Todd; it's Tedd Brown who owns Cruiser Solutions in New Hampshire. He buys his alu stuff from Aqualu in Canada (and the price goes up).

Cheers.
